‘Yes.’ I’d nodded, expecting him to be a little sad. Especially given how crestfallen he was a couple of months ago when I’d first mentioned I’d be going. ‘It’s for the best.’

‘Sure. If that’s what you really think. Some time away with Tom will give you some clarity,’ he’d added before asking what film we should watch, like it was no big deal.

To be honest, I was shocked that he didn’t try to persuade me to stay, but I reasoned he had too much going on with the wedding, so I left it at that.

Something told me that telling Sarah wouldn’t be as straightforward. Then again, maybe I was overthinking it andshe’d be fine. After all, we’d agreed that it’d never be anything serious. Our arrangement always had an expiration date.

She’d asked to extend it by a month to help her finish her outline draft and although it only felt like days, the reality was it’d actually been several weeks.

We’d had a great run, but it was time to call it quits now.

Before we got in too deep.

And before someone got hurt.

Once the library had closed, I started setting everything up.

An hour later it was all done, so I went to my flat to bring Sarah down.

‘I’m going to cover your eyes. No peeking.’

‘Okay!’ she said.

Once we were in the main library hall, I removed my hands.

‘Oh my God!’ Sarah shrieked. ‘This is amazing!’

I’d positioned an inflatable bed on the ground, surrounded by battery-powered candles in the shape of a love heart.

Beside the bed were a pizza box, a bottle of champagne, some chocolates and other snacks.

‘Glad you like it. I guessed that having a sleepover in a library had to be one of a bookworm’s fantasies, so I thought it would be nice to do that before I?—’

‘You’re right!’ She cut me off. ‘But not just a normalsleepover. My biggest fantasy is having anadultsleepover in a library. I know Jess and Theo have done it here and I’d put money on the fact that Jane and Jackson have too, so I’m getting a bit of FOMO!’ She pushed me back onto the bed.

‘Maybe we should eat and talk first?’ I asked. ‘About the future?’

‘Later!’ she said.

‘But—’

‘Please, Ben.’ Sarah’s face turned solemn. ‘Let’s have this night together. We can talk about serious stuff later.’

She reached between my legs and started stroking me.

‘Fuck,’ I growled. ‘You know I can’t think straight when you touch me.’

‘So don’t think. The main library door is locked, right? We’ve got the whole place to ourselves, so just lay back and relax.’

Sarah shuffled downwards, unzipped my fly, reached inside my boxers and pulled out my cock.

I was about to protest, but Sarah wrapped her fingers around the base of my dick, then leant forward, giving it a long, slow lick before sliding it into her mouth.

At that moment I swear to God that I saw stars.

Every ounce of logic flew straight out of my mind.

I gripped her hair and pushed myself deeper, revelling in the sight of Sarah’s head bobbing as she took more of me to the back of her throat.
