I want what she has with them. I want to find those fated to be mine.
But unless they’re here in Iero, there’s little chance of finding them. If they were here, surely I’d know it by now, wouldn’t I?
Fuck.
I need to get out of my head. Today is about celebrating Dalia’s marriage, not obsessing over what I don’t have.
“Are you okay?”
I force a tight smile as I turn to face Inigo, the only other phoenix in Iero. “Why wouldn’t I be? We’re at a wedding—the first on Iero.”
He scoffs. “I know you too well for that to fly with me.”
I hate the reminder.
I once thought Inigo and I were mates, but I’d clearly been wrong.
Things hadn’t ended well for us, and I don’t understand why he keeps trying to be friendly with me.
Probably because he’d been the one to break my heart.
“Don’t pretend like you care, Inigo. I’m not in the mood.” I wave him off as I tear my eyes away from his face. It hurts to even look at him. Somehow, he seems to get more handsome every year, and it’s not fair. “I’m sure there are plenty of women willing to fall into your bed. Why don’t you go bother someone else?”
He sighs. “Will you please stop pushing me away?”
I snort. “Why would I want you anywhere near me? So you can break my heart again? No thanks.”
“Come on, Enya. Please—” He grabs my arm to stop me when I go to walk away.
Someone clears their throat. “I don’t believe the lady wants your hands on her, so I’d suggest you remove them.”
Turning my head, I find two of the Headless Riders looming behind Inigo. It’s hard to tell them apart since we can’t see their heads, but a quick glance at their cuts reveals it’s Dragon and Goat, and I immediately relax.
I haven’t gotten a chance to get to know too many of the members of the new MCs, but I’ve worked fairly closely with the two of them. They’re good men.
“This is between Enya and me.” Inigo’s voice is tight as he swings his head to take in the bikers.
Dragon shakes his head. “You can speak without your hands… What’s your name? I don’t think we’ve met.”
“Inigo.”
“I’m Dragon, and this is Goat. I’d say it’s nice to meet you, but you’re still holding onto our friend’s arm.” He takes a step closer. “Your hands are not needed for a conversation, and the other party is allowed to walk away if they’re not interested in the conversation.”
Inigo’s hand flexes against my arm.
“Look, Inigo. You’re definitely hot, but men who put their hands on women is a bad look.” It’s Goat who speaks this time.
Inigo glances down at where he holds my arm, his face flushing. His brows draw up, as if confused by his hold on me, and he lets me go as he takes a step back. “I’m sorry, Enya. I just?—”
With one last glance at Dragon and Goat, he shakes his head and hurries off.
What the hell was that?
“Are you okay, Enya?” Dragon’s deep voice sends a shiver up my spine.
I’m not sure I am, but what else am I going to say? “I’m fine.”
Goat grunts, and I’m not sure he believes my lie. “What was that all about?”
