Morrigan glares at me, and I bite back a smile. “You keep her safe.”
“I can keep myself safe,” Dalia bites with a shake of her head.
“We will,” Titan assures her. “Go. We have Dalia.”
Dalia turns her glare on Titan, but he just shrugs.
We’re going to be protective of her, and she might as well get used to it. Even after we take care of Renwick, we’ll do our damnedest to keep her safe—no matter how much she hates it.
With one last squeeze of Dalia’s hand, Phoebe releases her and grabs Morrigan’s hand instead before leading her away.
“I don’t need you to watch over me or whatever bullshit you’re thinking.” Dalia’s hands land on her hips as she continues to glare at Titan. “I’m a grown woman who is capable of taking care of herself.”
“Who has a blood bond to the douche planning to come steal you away,” Blaze says gently. “We just worry about you.”
She wrinkles her nose. “Well, I worry about the three of you, too.”
“Then we’ll worry about each other.” My eyes drift back to the horizon, not liking how close the storm clouds are to us. It won’t be long now.
“He’s almost here.” Dalia’s hand flies up to her chest as her eyes squeeze shut.
Blaze wraps his arms around her. “Don’t worry, Dalia. We’ve got this.”
I wish I had as much confidence as he does. We’ve only seen glimpses of what’s coming for our girl, and I’m man enough to admit I’m scared.
That I’m not sure we’ll be enough to stop Renwick.
What I do know is that we’ll do what we have to in order to keep Dalia safe—and hope it’s enough.
Dalia gasps, bringing my eyes back to her as her head snaps toward the horizon.
I follow her line of sight and curse as I get my first look at just what we’re facing. I knew Renwick had an army, but I didn’t realize just how vast it is. We’re outnumbered at least two to one—if not more.
I gave up on praying a long time ago, but I can’t help whispering one to Freya.
“Please keep Dalia safe. I don’t care if it’s my time to go, but she deserves to live a life free of fear.”
I allow my eyes to fall shut for a moment before moving to stand behind Dalia, Blaze, and Titan on either side of her.
We will stand by her side and support her, no matter what.
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Dalia
Nausea rushes through me as I feel the bond between Renwick and me growing stronger as he moves closer and closer.
I’ve been putting on a brave face for my sisters and my men, but I’m terrified.
What if he’s able to command me via the blood bond? It’s why he was able to control me so well at the beginning of our relationship.
Yes, I’d been able to fight the commands toward the end of my time with him. Having been away from him for forty-eightyears should’ve suppressed the bond further, but what if he’s grown more powerful?
I shake my head as if I can shake off my thoughts so easily.
I need to get my head in the game. I can’t let him know how much his presence scares the shit out of me.
He might have broken me once, but I survived. I won’t allow him to break me again.
