“Oh, yes,” she said.“Yes!” With a cry of pure ecstasy, Aurelie shuddered as the most body-shaking, world-changing orgasm rolled through her.Jace collapsed next to her, rolling her sideways so he didn’t leave her.

He kissed the tip of her nose, then her cheeks, his breath ragged and heavy.

“For fuck’s sake,” he whispered, his hands wrapped in her hair.An aftershock of happiness trembled over her skin as he pulled her head in for a passionate kiss. His tongue wasn’t nearly as explorative as it had been before they’d made love, but it teased her mouth open, ran along her lips before he sucked her bottom lip in, nibbling on it with his teeth. It was passionate, but lacking the desperation of their earlier kissing. She exhaled a contented sigh as he released her, wanting to dissolve into a puddle at his feet, while at the same time flip him over and ride him until morning.

“Indeed,” she whispered.

“What can I make you for dinner?”he asked, his face positively shining. His eyes were cerulean, the truest green-blue from her hometown, light seeming to emanate from inside them. How could she ever be homesick when her home was reflected in the eyes of a man she was falling for?

“You can cook, too?”she wondered aloud. Was there anything this man couldn’t do?

“Well, duh.I can’t just get by on my good looks and money, you know.”

Aurelie laughed until his mouth was on hers again.

“Jesus.I can’t get enough of you, Mrs.Michaels.”Did he mean in bed?Surely he hadn’t reversed his lifelong directive to stay single that easily?

“Good, because you’re going to have a hard time getting rid of me now,” she said.Clarifying, she added, “I have so many positions we’re going to have to check off now that I know you’re good for them.”

“God, I hope so.”He kissed her long and deep, and she tried like hell not to let the kiss ignite the flutters in her heart. She focused the energy on her sex until her stomach rolled.

“We have sandwiches,” she said, and he pulled back his head from hers.

“Say what?”

She realized how out of context her statement was and giggled.

“I mean, you can cook tomorrow. We still have sandwiches in the fridge.”

“That’s right.Damn, I completely forgot about lunch when I realized what I was really hungry for,” he said, dipping his chin and kissing the top of her breast. As if on cue, his stomach roared in mutiny.“But hell, I’m pretty starving now.Stay put.I’ll bring them to us in bed.”

“Paige would never allow that,” Aurelie told him.

“Well, she should come home and stop me,” Jace said, winking as he pulled out of her and rolled off the edge of the bed.A flood of moisture pooled between her legs, and she would have been embarrassed at the amount of her that seeped from within if she didn’t know exactly what caused it: the beautiful man who’d just left.He elicited feelings she’d never experienced, and her body reacted viscerally to him. She’d need to keep tabs on them, lest they get out of control.

He walked to the bathroom attached to the guest room, and Aurelie appreciated the view of his tight butt that led to muscular thighs and strong calves as he moved.

“Shit,” he muttered to himself, so low she barely caught what he’d said.“Shit, shit, shit.”

That time, she didn’t miss it, nor the fear lacing the words.

“What is it, Jace?”She leaned up on her elbow, a feeling of unease washing over her.

He peeked his head out of the bathroom.

“I think we have a problem, Aury,” he said. His brows were pulled together in the center, tight with worry. Her heart sank to the bottom of her chest, and the lines creased her forehead as her own brow furrowed.

“No,” she said, the pieces falling into place.“When?”she asked, her voice bordering on shrill.

“I’m not sure. But it’s broken, and there isn’t anything inside.”

“Shit,” she echoed.

So much of the day had forced the reality of this marriage on her, but nothing was quite as effective as realizing she’d just made love with her fake husband without protection.Though she could hope it didn’t mean anything, that nothing would result, when she sped through the math in her head, this was the worst possible time for that to happen.

Aurelie had the distinct feeling that their earlier talk of children would need to be revisited in the coming weeks. As would their talk of what their fake marriage could include.

For not the first time that day, Aurelie wondered what she’d done.Fear gripped her, her decisions leading up to that moment flashing in front of her as if on a highlight reel of epic mistakes sent to taunt her.
