Two dimples appeared on his cheeks.

I heard the girls giggle a few times, but James seemed to have suddenly lost interest in them, as if teasing me turned him on more.

“So I get the vibe that you want it too.”

He waved the ice cream in front of my nose as a bit of it dripped down the back of his hand. He put the tip of his thumb between his full lips and sucked on it greedily.

“Exactly,” I answered without hesitation as they stared at me astonished. Without breaking eye contact, I stood up, grabbed the cone, and flicked my wrist to throw it on the ground. The vanilla splattered across the tiles surrounding the pool.

“Oh, I’m so sorry, Hunter.” I narrowed my eyes and pointed at the ground.

“Why don’t you start getting a little practice now?”

James gritted his teeth and started to spring up, but right then William came back holding two glasses of Coca-Cola.

I smiled, pleased. James shot one last murderous look at me.

“Be very careful, Snow White.”

“Is this what you’re forced to do now? What is it, boredom?”

James was drinking the bottom of his cocktail with the straw as he stared at his new prey: June White.

“I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, Jax.”

She stood next to the pool chatting with Will, and they seemed pretty close.

“You’ve literally banged half the school, and now you can’t resist the only one who doesn’t wanna put out?”

“You’re so childish, Jackson. I just wanna understand what the fuck she thinks she can do with Will.”

“You shouldn’t interfere.”

“Jax, we’re talking about Will. And we don’t want to see him fuck up. Again.”

“You can’t protect him forever, let him fuck up.”

But James didn’t seem interested in anyone else’s opinion. He always had to do things his own way.

“Look at them. She dragged him out here to the pool. How the fuck did she do that?” He smoked through a clenched jaw and half-open eyes, as if he wanted to burrow into their minds.

“Aren’t you getting a little carried away with her?”

“I don’t give a flying fuck about that princess. Besides, think about yourself.”

“Myself?” I asked, frowning.

“Where’s your girlfriend?” he retorted, before I could add anything else. I looked at him confused.

“What girlfriend?”

“Ex-fucking-actly. Look around. Why are you just sitting here?” he mocked me. My eyes were glued to his hand on my bicep. The contact between my boiling skin and the metal of his rings made me shiver.

“What the fuck did you say?” I got aggravated, raising my voice. He definitely suspected something. I hadn’t allowed myself a kiss in public in months, maybe a year. And he’d noticed it. He pointed at two girls staring at me across the pool.
