He rubs his hand over his face roughly, then slumps in the chair next to Char. “He left that on her grave.”
“I don’t get it.” Sawyer pokes at the stone with the tip of his finger. “Why would he do that?”
“Who knows, son.” Dad reaches out and picks up the piece of jade, rolling it idly as his eyes unfocus. “We need to be extra careful. This might be some sort of warning.”
I can’t take this.
Pushing myself up, I rinse my cup in the sink and drop it into the dishwasher. “I’m going to work with Misty for a little while.”
RacingQueen: My brother is getting married tomorrow.
TheBigO: Congrats. A big shin-dig?
RacingQueen: No. I wish.
I can’t believe nobody wants any sort of celebration.
Chewing on my lip, I sit cross-legged on my bed.
With all of the shit going on, it would be nice to have some sort of amazing memory.
RacingQueen: Biggie…if we did get married, would you want a huge party or a tiny thing? My uncle eloped in Vegas. My brother is doing the Justice of the Peace at the courthouse. Hell, my dad’s was in the backyard.
TheBigO: I’ll do whatever you want.
Blinking rapidly, I stare at the screen. Is he just saying that?
Or is he serious?
RacingQueen: I want the truth.
TheBigO: I think I’ve told you I was married before?
RacingQueen: Yes.
TheBigO: It was small. I’d be ready for big because I only ever plan on doing it once more. And I know you’d want that too.
Fuck. Tears sting in my eyes.
He’s right. I’d want the whole world to know.
It sucks he’s in Oregon. That’s so far away.
Would I move?
He’s so sure I’ll be with him by summer, that means leaving the ranch.
I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet.
But I do want to see him again. Well, touch him at least.
RacingQueen: How long would it take you to get to Tacoma? I have an expo there kicking off the season Valentine’s day.
TheBigO: Only a few hours. Worth it.
A flush of heat runs through me at the thought of feeling him.
I want him to take me like last time. I loved how rough and aggressive he was.
