I pull my shoulders back. “Okay, I’ll go out with you.”
His smile widens, and his black eyes practically glow. He leans toward me and kisses me thoroughly, grunting when he pulls away. “You won’t regret this, Luna.”
I look down at the notebook in my hand and act as if I’m trying to think about what I’m going to write. In fact, I’m thinking I’m pretty sure I’m going to regret this, but I’m going to enjoy it as long as it lasts.
CHAPTER 7
COLE
“I think we got a lot done today, don’t you?”
My mouth is dry. I feel like I can barely form a sentence, let alone answer her, so I nod my head.
Luna waves her hand in my face. “Cole. Earth to Cole.”
I shake my head and blurt out, “Luna, you are stunning.”
Her cheeks turn a bright red, and it makes me wonder what she would look like in the throes of passion.
She uncrosses her legs and then crosses them the other way. “Since you picked me up, you’ve called me beautiful, breathtaking, pretty, and now stunning.” She picks up her glass and brings it to her painted red lips. “You seem surprised, Cole.”
I clear my throat and adjust myself. Since I first laid eyes on her at her apartment when I picked her up, I’ve been hard. “No, I’m not surprised. You are fuckin’ beautiful. I just wasn’t prepared for this…”
She bites her lip and looks unsure. “Is it too much? My friend loaned me the dress, the shoes, and the bag. She did my hair and makeup… but maybe it’s too much. I wanted?—”
She cuts herself off and looks down at the table.
I move my chair around the table so that we’re sitting next to each other instead of across. I put a hand on hers. “You wanted what?”
She blinks at me. “I wanted to fit into your world… for one night at least.”
My heart beats erratically in my chest. Is she kidding me right now? “Honey, I don’t want you to fit into my world. Fuck, you’re too good for my world. I want you and me to create our own.”
Her eyes light up, and she leans toward me. “You really have a way with words, Cole Kingston.”
I cup her chin. “I mean it, though. I appreciate you dressing up, I really do, but I need you to know that I think you’re just as beautiful in your sweats and T-shirt with your hair in a ponytail.”
She lets out a sigh. “Thank you. I was worried that you’d changed your mind or something.”
My hand moves to her shoulder. Now that I’ve touched her, I can’t stop. “Why would you think that?”
She shrugs and looks at me almost shyly. “I dunno. You’ve been really quiet since you picked me up, and I thought that maybe you had changed your mind.”
I chuckle and lean into her. “Want to know why I’ve been quiet?”
She nods and finally meets my eyes.
“I’ve been sitting here going back and forth between wanting to poke out the eyes of every man who is looking at you and wanting to take you back to my house and make you mine.”
She gasps, and I feel the tension leave her body.
I point at her barely touched food. “You going to eat?”
She pats her stomach. “I’m stuffed.”
I trace my finger across her shoulder. “Do you want me to take you home?”
I’m prepared for her to say no. I’ve told myself that I’m not going to pressure her anymore today about the marriage proposal. I need her to see how good we can be together. I know I’m asking her for a huge commitment, so it wasn’t right to give her twenty-four hours to decide.
