Her head tilts just slightly.

Understanding immediate.

“Three what?” she asks.

“Minutes.”

A beat.

“Not five like Boone said.”

Her eyes flick to mine.

There it is.

Connection.

Alignment.

Trust.

“You’re testing the response,” she says.

“Yes.”

A small pause.

“Then we watch who reacts.”

Exactly.

Boone doesn’t look at us, but I see it in the set of his shoulders.

He heard.

He’s adjusting.

Good.

The room continues like nothing’s changed.

Like everything is still running on the same rhythm.
