“I didn’t get a name yet, but he’s a descendent of Deimos, the Greek god of terror. He told me he has taken out more of your relatives and he was coming for you next. It’s strange to have my vision-people talk to me. Until my first encounter with Peter, my visions had all been passiveviewing.”
Quain fell into contemplative silence. Remnants of icy dread swirled inside him. “Whatever his name, he has some of Deimos’ skill. I don’t think I’ve ever been so frightened of anyonebefore.”
He licked his lips and wrapped his arms around Peter, seeking warmth and human contact. Chilled down to his bones, he needed a goodcuddle.
The demigod’s words still echoed in his head. “Ahh, a seer. I will be happy to collect you after I have taken care of that fragile god you hang around with. It has been many years since I’ve had the pleasure of breaking onein.”
After the two scenes flashed before him, Quain had forcibly abandoned the vision and silently vowed to keep as far away from the scary demigod as possible. Even Anthony didn’t frighten him this much, but then he had the sanity to keep him from hurting others. Quain didn’t have the same confidence about Deimos’ offspring. Somewhere amongst the terror lived a batshit crazy psychopath who saw nothing wrong with killing off everyone related tohim.
“Did he see you?” Peter asked, panic in hisvoice.
“Yes, but he doesn’t know who I am.” Quain had been careful not to give the stranger any personal facts. “He knows I’m a seer, and he somehow knows that I’m connected to the Moon Pack, but I’m not sure how. I left as soon as I could. He creeped me out abit.”
“I’ll keep an eye out for him,” Anthony promised. “He invades my dreams sometimes to remind me he is hunting medown.”
Anthony’s casual tone didn’t inspire confidence about the safety of the pack, but Quain would talk to Peter about that in private. If it turned out the pack couldn’t keep them safe, they would leave. Torture by an insane demigod was not what he had signed upfor.
“Be careful. There’s a lot of hate there. The preacher guy was candy sweet compared to your psycho demigod cousin.” He jabbed a thumb toward thegunman.
“Yeah, I got that from when he threatened me before in my dreams. I wish I knew what are all his powers. Then I could at least train to beat him.” Anthony’s movements took a more fidgetyturn.
Quain eyed Anthony’s thin frame and delicate features but didn’t comment. Magic hummed beneath Anthony’s skin. It would be foolish to judge him based on appearancealone.
“I’ll let you know if I see anything else about him,” Quain promised. Even if they didn’t stick around the pack, he could still call and warn them. His vow to Zeus didn’t necessarily include joining thepack.
“Thankyou.”
Guilt twanged through him at Anthony’s gratitude. Little did the demigod know that Quain would abandon them all to keep his mate safe. Maybe the lynx in him was a bit more territorial than he’dthought.
Silver entered the office, and after taking in the scene with a swift glance, he wrapped his arms around Anthony. “What did Imiss?”
“Quain had a vision about my future attacker. He thinks he’s a descendent ofDeimos.”
Quain had never seen a bond as the one between the Alpha Mates. With his seer sight, Quain observed the silvery strands connecting the couple glow and pulse likestarlight.
“Did he kill Anthony in your vision?” Silverasked.
Quain thought it over, scanning the vision for the end. “I don’t know,” headmitted.
“How can you not know?” Silversnapped.
“Shh.” Anthony patted Silver’s arm. “Visions aren’t an exact science, love.”
“I snapped out of it after you were attacked.” Guilt swam through Quain over Anthony’s understanding tone. The ending might be vital to Anthony’s survival, but Quain didn’t know if he should tell Anthony that he’d seen him skewered by a golden sword. If he changed the future, the enemy could switch weapons and Anthony might die where before he survived. Seers had long calculated the risks of sharing visions, but none of them agreed on anytheory.
“Can you get the vision back?” Silverasked.
Quain hated to crush the hopeful expression in Silver’s eyes. “Sometimes. The visions come as they will. If I see anything new, I’ll let youknow.”
“Peter has my number.” Anthony nodded to Peter. “Call me whenever you have anything you want toshare.”
“I will,” Quain said. If they planned to stay, he needed to prove his place among the pack. Although mating with Peter would automatically make him a member, he wanted to be valued for himself. His family knew his strengths, but no one elsedid.
“We’d better go.” Silver released Anthony. “We promised Dare we’d be back to take care of Trin bytwo.”
Anthony glanced at his watch, then nodded. “Yeah, we’d better go. I got all the bullet particles out of your chest, Quain, and healed the rest of yourinjuries.”
“Great. Thank you.” He owed Anthony a debt, but he figured Zeus had already taken care ofpayment.
