“I didn’t say that,” Anthony’s grin made Silver’s viciousness seem more like a friendly puppy than a rabid wolf. “We just have to be careful. We take them out where it hurts. The wizards depend on their financial stability to hire muscle and keep people in line. “What if they didn’t have that to fall backon?”
“You’re thinking a bloodless coup?” Callenasked.
“Well, not necessarily bloodless. If they come directly onto our territory, we will eliminate them,” Anthony said in a casual tone. “However, once they lack the money for their operation, they will start tearing each other apart. I will consult with Oliver about the best way to go about it. He’ll know all their weakpoints.”
“They tortured Quain. Taking away their money isn’t enough.” Peter clenched his jaw. His inner wolf whimpered at hisdefiance.
Anthony turned his attention to Peter, and it took all of his concentration not toflinch.
“Did I forget to mention the accidents that are going to befall any of the men who hurtQuain?”
“Must have missed that part.” Peter exchanged grins with the Alpha Mate. He really loved hispack.
“Good. You two go home and rest. Silver and I will meet with Oliver and see the best way to take the wizards down. If it turns out a full-frontal attack is needed, that is what we’ll do. However, I still think a subtler approach is the way to go,” Anthonydeclared.
“Whatever you say, Alpha Mate. I’m sure you’ll see that they pay.” Peter no longer had any question as to Anthony’s ability to take down the wizards. He almost hoped they could declare an all-out war. The thirst for battle coated his tongue, but he would rather fight smart than get the packkilled.”
“I appreciate your confidence,” Anthonysaid.
“We will be in touch,” Silveragreed.
“What should we do with this guy?” Scott nodded his head toward thepreacher.
“I’ll wipe his memory and send him on his way. He’ll decide to find a new corner to sell his religion when I’m done,” Anthonysaid.
“Good.” Peter couldn’t stop the smug grin he knew spread across his face. At least one good thing had come out of the attack. He no longer had to listen to the preacher’s jabbering all day. Now he could turn down the music in his garage and have fewerheadaches.
“You c-can’t do that. I have rights,” the preacherstuttered.
“You gave those up when you tried to kill our friend.” Anthony’s bored tone almost made Peter laugh. He had never been so glad of having him on the side of this pack instead of against them. From what he could tell, Moon Pack’s enemies had a short shelflife.
The grip on his arm tightened. Peter caught Quain just as he began to topple. One look at his eyes and he could tell his mate was experiencing anothervision.
“I’ve got you,” he murmured as he laid Quain gently on the cement floor. “If this keeps up, I’ll have to walk around with apillow.”
Quain didn’t move. Only the slight motion of his chest showed he was still breathing. After five minutes and several of Peter’s nails gnawed off, Quain gave a big gasp. He sucked in air as a drowning man seekingoxygen.
“Easy, love.” Peter helped Quain sit up. “Don’t rush tostanding.”
“I’m fine. I’m just a little shaky,” Quainadmitted.
“What happened?” Anthony crouched down beside Quain as he asked hisquestions.
“I had a vision,” Quainannounced.
Peter held back the sarcastic response begging toescape.
“Can you share it?” Anthonyasked.
The rest of the pack scooted closer while trying not to crowdQuain.
Chapter 8
Quain didn’t speak right away, afraid of saying too much. Revealing the future could make things worse or better, and he couldn’t always measure the difference until it was toolate.
He decided to go with the basic information. “I talked to the entity coming after you.” He paused, unsure if he should say anything else. How could he convey the cold and insidious fear the vision had invoked? If he were Anthony, he would be running far away. Good thing no one could hurt him in avision.
“Who isit?”
