“Heidi had a scent matched Alpha,” Kai says reluctantly but he goes on, his eyes downcast like it hurts him to talk. “I don’t know the details, and we don’t need them, but it explains why our girl needs to protect herself, Dare. You can be there from now on, but you can’t save her from what happened. She did that herself.”
He pulls the pin on one of the things not many people know about. Him spilling my secrets doesn’t feel like a betrayal, in some ways it adds to the sense of relief I was already feeling.
“He’s right,” I say confidently. And I take my time to look at Darius first, he’s enveloped in what can only be described as a mix of horror and pain. Ramses is next, and he’s smiling proudly, and Kai, he eventually raises his eyes to mine. But it’s not enough. He leans over and kisses my forehead lingering there until his scent is thick in my lungs. “I’m okay.”
“You’re better than okay,” he says, and it’s an apology and a declaration of support rolled into one.
I ready myself for Darius’s comeback but there is none. Instead, he gathers all his cushions and makes a pile on them of the ground just to the side of my chair, and then he reclines back, his arm slung up and over my feet and twists around to face me. “Little moon, I’m going to thank the fucker because he let you go, before I kick his ass for being such a fucking coward.”
A snort laugh bursts out of me before I can stop it. But it’s fine, we all deal differently.
“Ramses, feed our Omega,” he mumbles as he sinks back. My fingers scratch up over his scalp, and he purrs softly like a house cat.
“Anything you don’t like, Heidi?” Ramses asks.
“Not that I can think of. What are we having?”
“We’re having Ramses special. Grilled meat marinated in Mediterranean spice, lots of lemon and olive oil and salads. All organic,” Darius says, his eyes still closed.
“You eat organic?” I ask, a little surprised. Organic is expensive as heck.
“Your body is our temple, little moon, you’re only eating the best now.”
“Sounds a lot like you’re trying to control everything in my life, Darius,” I snip, letting my finger pinch his ear.
“Settle down, Darius,” Kai barks. It’s not too soft to ignore, not too loud to feel threatened by. “And Heidi, he meant nothing by it. As if we would ever try to control what you ate or drank. But we will use food as our love language for our Omega too.”
Darius’s mood twists again. “And sex. A lot of issues get quickly resolved when you fuck your anger out.”
“What is going on right now? Are we ever going to have a normal discussion when we’re together?”
“Hmm, that’s debatable,” Ramses says, handing over my plate, along with some cutlery. “How’s that?”
“Perfect, thank you.”
And it is. The first bite is sublime. So is the next and the one after that. The night passes easily, with lots of laughter and stories of the three of them growing up. We spend time talking about simple things, nothing is too heavy, until all of a sudden words pop out of my mouth.
“I was wondering how you’d feel if I stayed a couple of extra days?”
The three of them go statue still.
“Or maybe not?” I whisper. Suddenly wondering if I got it all wrong.
But Kai reacts first. “God, no, you can stay forever, rohi. Wow, you kind of stole our thunder. We were going to ask you if you would tomorrow.”
“Really?” I ask. His eyes are vibrant green, glittering like gems in his honesty.
I reach over for a cuddle and twist my head at Ramses, getting slow nods, letting me know he’s good too. Darius is still quiet. And I close my eyes, trying to figure out where his emotions are going to be, but even before I open them, I’m covered in his scent and him. He pushes his brother out of the way, his hands getting all gropey, his touch as clear as he is. “I think that’s a very good idea, Heidi.”
“Is everything always going to be sexual?” I ask as he cups my pussy.
“You’d fucking hope so, wouldn’t you?” He chuckles his dirty evil laugh into my ear.
“Okay, okay… Heidi is staying. Tomorrow we can sort everything out.” Ramses interrupts Darius and stops his touching, moving past being sort of decent.
“I need to get in touch with a couple of people if I’m staying too. Are you sure though?”
“Of course we are. Dare, you’ve got shit to organise for us given we’re having our girl stay another few days.”
