“We only need one room and a bed.”

“True.”

Noah joins the conversation. And I’m not offended he hasn’t till now. I’ve been watching him sort through his schedule on his tablet for a while. “Lennon, I’ll be in the theatre nearly all day tomorrow. If I don’t call or text, don’t worry. If you haven’t heard from me by the morning, you can start to worry. I’m texting you the number of the surgery ward manager, if you need me and I don’t answer, call him and he will be able to get me. Once we get out of the car, I need to get ready. I’ll go over to the hospital, grab some food, and work through what I’ve missed over the past few days.”

“Can I come up with you, to see your apartment?”

He spins around, looking confused, which is kind of cute. Noah’s got a stunned look on his face, adding storm to his grey eyes.

“Sorry, I thought I asked you already. I’ve got a lot going on. Come up, I need to give you a few things.”

Valak and Gabe have impeccable timing, both of them back and nodding that the coast is clear. We all climb out of the car—it’s so good to have a stretch. Noah grabs my hand with one hand, his briefcase with the other, and I do the same.

“Hot damn. Power couple,” Gabe wolf whistles and the noise echoes through the underground garage, making Ares bark. “What’s up with Ares?” Gabe freaks out.

“He’s working and can’t hear properly. He basically told you to shut up.”

“Holy shit. That is so cool. Can we get another one, Len? I could have one too.”

I shake my head as we walk towards the lift, Ares trotting a couple of feet ahead of me.

“I wouldn’t do that to my boy. He’s going to have issues with you lot as it is.”

“Why?”

“The breed is naturally jealous of any attention that their owner gets. All jokes aside, you will need to be careful around him, even Valak, until everything settles down.”

“What about when we have sex?”

“Well, just be careful you know where he is. Or he’s likely to attack,” I answer seriously. And Gabe’s eyes nearly pop out of his head.

“Umm, no, that doesn’t work, Len.”

And then I start laughing, earning another growl from Ares, but Gabe is so gullible sometimes. “He’ll be fine. I was joking. You only need to be careful if he’s already with me. Everyone does. If he comes over to us, then it’s different. It’s been me and Ares for a long time, go easy on him.”

We all get into the elevator, and Noah uses a card to access his floor.

“Not making enough money for the penthouse, Noah?” Lincoln asks on the sly, a small smile on his face as he checks the time on his Breitling leather watch. The cheeky shit. Although Noah just pulls his wrist up, flashing the same watch on his wrist at Lincoln.

“I prefer cock measuring competitions,” Gabe tuts.

“So do I,” I admit, getting a side eye from Valak, along with one of his award-winning small smiles.

“Honestly, the hospital pays for this. It’s fine, but nothing fancy. When I’m on roster, all I need is a bed and a hot shower.”

And he obviously has a different definition of ‘nothing fancy’ than I do, because when the doors open, it’s like we’re standing in the lobby of a hotel.

“Okay, we so need to talk about my home. This is insane, Noah.”

“Lennon, it’s a sterile, mindless box, and it’s going to be amplified after the past few days I’ve spent with you.” Noah tugs me to him and sweeps me backwards, kissing the living shit out of me before putting a little space between us so he can speak quietly. “I’m going to miss being with you.”

“You trying to get me all emotional, Dr. Teo?”

“Is it working?”

He pulls me back up from his grand sweeping kiss but grabs a hold of my hand again and points to the kitchen. “Help yourself. I need this one for a few minutes.”

There’re no objections behind us, and I can hear the fridge open. Ares stays next to me though, bumping into my legs at one point.
