My mouth begins to curve up. “Exactly that. I have so much to learn, but I am willing to try. And I know we’re new, but now you have all the facts to decide if we can keep our train moving forward,” I explain honestly.
“Abby, this train is moving.” His serious look quickly evaporates to elated. My smile widens before our mouths meet for a hungry kiss that sends tingles to my toes.
Soon our hands are groping each other all over and our kissing turns quick and hard. I reluctantly pull away enough to speak, but still feel his warm breath. My fingers play with his shirt on his chest.
Coyly, I need to ask. “I noticed your bed was delivered…”
“Come on, we have a job to do.” He lifts me over his shoulder fireman-style and carries me up the stairs to his room.
I squeal the entire way. When we reach his room, he throws me on the still-plastic-covered bed which makes crinkly noises as I land on the cold material. We both quickly remove our clothes before christening the bed fast and hard. Resulting in us lying on top of the plastic, yet to my surprise Lucas pulls a dark blue throw blanket out from a shopping bag near the bed.
Draping it over us, he informs me, “See? I listened to your advice.”
Playfully, I slap him.
He comes to leaning on his side and places a hand on my stomach. “Thank you for your honesty. We will figure it out when we get there, but I needed to know you were okay with Theo being part of the picture.”
My fingertips caress his cheek. “Absolutely,” I confirm again with a reassuring look. “And I know it’s a lot if we get there. Theo has to be comfortable around me. I can imagine his mom still plays a role in all of this too. We also have our parents who we need to tame. And I am only 60% confident that you won over Romeo, so that may need some work too,” I try to make him smile.
“You’re not joking, are you?” His eyes widen, and I shake my head no, which earns me that smile I was waiting for on his scruff-covered face.
I roll away from his hand circling my stomach and come to sitting. Finding clothes to redress.
“What are you doing?” He seems confused.
“Lucas, you need to finish Theo’s room for tomorrow, and this room needs sheets on the bed. Let’s get that done before we go into round two,” I remind him as I step into my jeans and zip up my zipper.
He rolls out of bed too and begins to dress. “Is this you offering your services to help again tonight?”
I nod at him yes. As I head towards the door, he grabs my hand and wheels me to him. Running into his hard chest, his hands find my face to cup and he plants a long kiss on my lips.
“I’m liking this,” he states with a saccharine smile.
I return the look. “Me too.”

When the weekend rolls around,Lucas and I keep each other updated. Apparently, Theo loves his room, and they order pizza on Friday night. On Saturday, I catch up on laundry, pay bills, then meet the group at Matchbox minus Lucas. Sunday, I take Romeo for a walk and we head to a café on Main Street that prides itself on serving humans and animals. Jess sits across from me at the table as Romeo lays at my feet.
“Really, he suggested we ditch our dates and get a hotel room. Who the hell reacts to that line? That man is infuriating,” she complains about Leo as she stirs her coffee.
“For someone who hates the guy, you sure as hell let him rile you, Jess. Are you sure that you were not contemplating?” I give her an interrogative look that makes her mutter in annoyance.
“Whatever. Anyways, I want the full lowdown on Dr. Kade. I loved the text updates, but I need the steamy details.” Jess looks at me excited.
I shake my head in amusement. “It’s going good.”
Jess’s face turns disappointed. “Don’t pull that ‘you don’t kiss and tell’ crap with me. Is it good? Did he break away the cobwebs in your body?”
My eyes roll up as I consider what to say, but my face must be giving me up. “It is…” I look at her, and she anxiously waits with her fingers tapping her crossed arms. “Good… great.” I have to smile.
Jess smiles. “This is news. So, are you two like now theitcouple of Sage Creek?”
I drink my mug of hot cocoa. “We’re seeing where it goes, but it is kind of complicated. He does have a child.”
“True. I wouldn’t even know how to advise on that, other than give it a chance.”
“I want to. Can’t lie, that he has a child is kind of scary, but I want to try, and I also like how it’s a factor that is part of Lucas,” I reflect.
