“For everyone. We may all need to get out of dodge when this is done.”
Chapter 26
Zoey
They did not leaveme alone for very long.
The guy came to get me, fortunately, instead of grabbing me by the hair, this time he took a painful hold on my upper arm. I could feel his fingers digging into the meat of my arm. Reflexively, I pulled against him, trying to run even though I knew it was futile.
He didn’t hesitate, pushing me into the wall and slapping me hard across the face. Tears sprang to my eyes, and if he didn’t have a hold of me, I would have fallen to the ground again. “You try my patience, Puta.” He spat his angry words at me, then the tone of voice changed as he crowded his body against mine. “You’ve got a fight in you.” He took a deep breath, inhaling my scent deeply, then growled low in his throat. “I love it when they fight.”
I couldn’t stop the whimper of fear as I tried to get away from the man pinning me to the wall with his body. There was nowhere for me to go, and I could feel every solid inch of him against me. I wanted to weep or throw up—or both.
In the end, he moved away from me when one of the other doors opened and a man in a nice suit stepped into the hallway. His voice was angry as he spoke to the man holding me. The guy smiled and backed away from me, but kept his firm grip on my upper arm as he continued to talk to the guy who was clearly his boss.
The boss jerked his head toward the open door, and he dragged me through the open door. Inside the room was a table like you’d see at a doctor’s office, only with restraints above the table. There was one guy in scrubs, and two more guys came into the room—minions like the man holding me.
“You will cooperate, Zoey Bryant.” The boss finally spoke to me, using my full name.
I couldn’t say anything, so I just shook my head. No. There was no way in hell I would cooperate with these guys. I’d been cooperating with Killian and D because they didn’t harm me. They’d seen to my comforts and make sure I was okay, minus a little embarrassment. With them, I was reasonably sure that I was going to be alive at the end of the day, even in that situation.
These guys were going to kill me, or worse. They wouldn’t risk me talking.“Relax, brother. She’s not going to put the man she’s fucking in jail.”D’s words played back in my head. If I had the power to put them in jail, that meant they were going to let me go at some point. I was going to live beyond this hellish nightmare.
If I hadn’t been so blinded by the hurt I felt over possibly being used, I would have recognized that fact, and I wouldn’t be in this situation now. Killian and D both would have been there, and I would have been safer. It was all my fault for leaving.
The boss didn’t look angry at my refusal to cooperate. In fact, he looked highly amused. “You will cooperate, or we will force you. Either way works for us.” He smirked. “As you saw in the hallway, some of my men love a good fight.”
My face paled at the not so veiled threat as he repeated his minions words back to me.
“Let’s get this done,” the guy in the scrubs said, breaking up the charged moment.
The boss nodded, never taking his eyes off me as his men went to work. For the first time in hours, my hands were untied, and I groaned at the pain as my muscles moved into a new position.
“You will remove your clothes, or we will, your choice, Mija.” The guy holding my arm released it.
Fuck no. A group of men surrounded me, and they wanted me to take my clothes off? Hell fucking no. They didn’t give me long to make the choice because the guy grabbed my arm again, and another guy grabbed my other arm.
