“Did Archer do this?” I asked, motioning to my arm and leg that were wrapped in perfect casts.
“With my help.” She was beaming with pride, and I had to admit, it was kinda sexy knowing that she’s been hanging out with me this whole time since the accident.
“Thank you,” I whispered, giving her a little kiss on the forehead.
“No problem.”
“How long have I been out for?”
“About a week. Archer figured you’d wake up eventually, he just didn’t know when.”
I snuggled against her, enjoying how her head careened into the side of my neck and fit just perfectly there.
“I’m sorry about your sister, Dillon. I hope she’s all right.”
Thinking about Joey again made all those feelings of guilt reappear. It was my fault that she was caught sneaking out of their compound. It was also my fault that they tortured her.
“Hey, it’s okay, Dillon. I’m sure she’s fine. You can’t blame yourself for this,” Sienna exclaimed, reading my expression like an open book.
“But it is my fault, Sienna. If it wasn’t for me, Joey never would’ve gotten hurt like she did. Now I don’t know if my sister is dead or alive. I need to find her, but I know right now that’s impossible. It be like flying to Scotland and spending countless days looking for the Loch Ness Monster.”
Her gentle fingers cupped my face, and the comfort her lips brought me when they touched down on my lips did wonders for the negativity swarming my brain.
“You’re going to find her, Dillon. You just gotta have faith.”
My face dropped into a painful grimace, and I had to fight to stay composed when everything inside me was breaking apart and failing.
“I lost my faith long ago, Sienna. Faith and luck have never been on my side.”
She frowned, but that didn’t stop her from staying optimistic.
“That was before you met me, Dillon. That was before you met the Celestial Sons.”
I held her penetrating gaze, trying to absorb all the wisdom she was throwing my way, but failing miserably at it.
“You act like the Sons are going to save me somehow.”
Sienna’s face warmed as her smile lit up her entire face. “They already have, Dillon. You just don’t know it yet.”
Archer picked that exact moment to walk into the room, the corners of his mouth ticking upward when he saw Sienna draped over my injured body.
“The club’s ready to meet with you, Dillon. Think you’re up for a drive?”
It hurt too much to shrug, so I just nodded my head. “Yeah, might as well get this over with now. There’s no use in prolonging the inevitable.”
Epilogue
I limped into the Celestial Sons MC meeting room like a wounded dog. I was doing my best to stay positive, but inside I was crumbling apart, wondering what they could possibly do to me that was any worse than what I already had been through.
Everyone was in the room, staring at me with the most venomous gazes, almost like they were ripping me apart in their thoughts and debating on all the ways they could shred me in two.
Zodiac and Scorpio were sitting at the head of the table, staring at me like I was enemy number one.
“Sit down, Dillon,” Zodiac ordered, his voice dripping with dominance.
I carefully sat down, breathing out a sigh of relief when Archer took the empty seat next to me. The giant’s presence was comforting, and I’ve slowly grown attached to him, more so than anyone else in the club. He was like the father figure I never had but always wanted, and that was a really strange feeling to have toward another human being. Nobody but Joey ever felt like family to me, but Archer and the rest of the Celestial Sons did, and I was a little afraid to lose them. But also knew that it too was inevitable.
For one whole minute, they all sat there and stared at me, not saying a word as their trenchant scowls beat me into submission.
