We all snickered.

“Well, why don’t you take her home, Scorpio? Cap will drive your bike back to the clubhouse and we’ll intervene tomorrow morning in Church.”

“Sounds good, Prez. Thank you. I’ll see you first think in the morning,” I stated, shooting Juliette a knowing look. “Come on, Beautiful, let’s get you home.” She could read between the lines of my heated gaze… tonight was all about relieving tension, and there was so much sexual tension between us it could warm a hot tub.

I watched my brothers take off, then took my woman’s hand, leading her to her vehicle. “You do realize what you’re getting yourself into, right?”

She nodded.

“Yup… a bed–my bed.”

Chapter Sixteen

Juliette

I felt extremely apprehensive about bringing Duncan home with me. The sexual tension between us was pulled tight and I was surfing on the edge of something I couldn’t come back from. If I jumped into bed with this man who made my heart skitter and patter violently inside my chest, I couldn’t reverse it. I’d be sleeping with a known suspect, someone that possibly could’ve killed a pregnant woman. I didn’t believe for one minute that he was responsible, but according to the rest of my department, he was guilty as sin. And fuck was he sinfully delicious. My eyes perused every muscle on his form, admiring the way they bumped and ridged his arms, creating sexy little hills of mouth-watering manscape I wanted to explore.

“Like something you see?” he asked, his voice dropping into a seductive tone.”

I gulped, because the honest answer was everything, but words, even a simple one like that, failed me.

“Arms… mountains… range of biceps… lick… delicious. Fuck.”

He laughed. “It’s like you’re trying to speak but can’t.” He was hovering outside my doorway, and everything inside my head was screaming for him to go, but the bottom half of me was waving white flags of surrender, ready to give in to all my desires I had locked away.

“Not that I’m going to stalk you or anything, but after what happened tonight, I don’t feel safe with you being alone, so I’m going to post up outside your house for the night. The Artillery knows who you are, Juliette, which means they know where you live, and I don’t want them to take advantage of that or you.” He cupped my cheek. “You’re too important to me to lose.”

Warning! Warning! Defense mechanism is malfunctioning. Woman down! I repeat this woman is going down!Even the warning bells inside my head weren’t enough to stop my mouth from taking his thumb that was sweeping over my lips, and sucking it into the hot cavern where my tongue laid in wait. His eyes slid euphorically closed, obviously imagining my mouth was wrapped around a different… longer… more needy appendage.

“Fuck, Juliette. If you keep doing that, I won’t be able to stop myself from taking you.”

I slowly slid my mouth off his thumb, making sure to pop it at the end. There was a guttural groan that escaped his lips as he stared at me with pent up sexual frustation. “I don’t want you to stay outside, Duncan.Comeinside me–I mean, inside with me.”

He smiled, obviously realizing the innuendo was intentional. “Only if you instruct me to do so, Deputy. I’m not going to force you to do anything you don’t want, and I’m gonna let you in on a little secret… I like it when a girl takes charge in the bedroom,” he whispered, and damn was it seductive as fuck.

“I’ve never done that before,” she admitted, looking a little ashamed. “I’ve really only been with a handful of men, and most of my experiences were lackluster at best. The only man I ever was serious about left me after college. He was Hollender’s older brother,” I admitted.

“Barrett?”

“Yeah,” I whispered, looking at the ground. “Now he’s married to the woman he cheated on me with and has a few kids running around.”

“That bastard!” Duncan gripped my chin, raising my head gently so I could look into those seductive blue eyes that were my downfall. “Any man that could walk away from you, Juliette, was a moron. Besides, he’s related to Hollender, I’m pretty sure you dodged a fucking bullet.”

I laughed. “Maybe a few.” My cheek hurt like hell when I smiled, but I couldn’t help smiling around Duncan, he just knew how to get under my skin.

“Even battered and bruised you’re beautiful.”

“That word is starting to grow on me,” I admitted, smiling weakly so I didn’t hurt my cheek. “So are you.”

His eyes danced with a million possibilities as our gazes met. “I understand what being with me could do to your reputation and your job, Juliette. So, if you need me to walk out that door and leave before we get wrapped up in something there’s no turning back from, I understand, but I need you to know… since the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were mine. Age means shit to me. Not when looking into your eyes makes me feel at home. I love the way you can hold your own with me when we banter. I love how gruff and aggressive you can be when you need to, but also soft and vulnerable at the same time. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on, and even if it takes me a million years to convince you that you’re it for me, I will. Now that I found you, Beautiful, I’m not letting you go.”

He sealed his words with a searing, mind numbing kiss. One that had me curling my toes and wanting to go limp in his arms. If we did this, it had to be my rules, otherwise it wouldn’t work.

“We need to keep this a secret from Hollender, Duncan. If he knew we were getting… um… close like this, he’d have me fired.”

He kissed along the slope of my neck, his lips a mixture of ruggedness and soft pout. “I like secrets–keeping them and making them.”

“Your club… how will they feel about us… you know… um… getting close.”
