“Show me,” she begged. “Show me how much you want me.”

Pulling back, I looked at her strangely, staring at her lips like they were going to be my last meal. “If I kiss you, won’t that affect your job?”

She nodded. “Only if they find out.”

My hand waved toward the dash cam. “And that?”

“I’m off duty… so it’s off duty,” she said with a wink.

I took a deep breath, gripping her forcefully by the back of the neck as my lips took over her mouth. The fresh sweet taste of cherry chapstick was covering those pouty full lips, and I was determined to lick every delectable morsel away.

She moaned against my mouth, her hands reaching around behind me to tug me closer to her. She scooted to the edge of the car, her legs wrapped around my torso as we continued to nip and kiss each other’s lips.

“Please, Duncan. Make me yours.”

I gripped her chin. “Juliette, don’t you see? You’ve been mine since the moment you slapped those cuffs on me. I was just waiting for you to open up your eyes to see it.”

We were so lost in ourselves that we didn’t even hear Zodiac and Cap pulling up until the horn broke us apart.

“Fuck!” I yelped, jumping away from Juliette.

Zodiac and Cap were both laughing their asses off as they turned off the vehicle and stepped outside.

“Fuck, Scorpio, don’t wet yourself. We were just having a little fun,” Cap chided, as he slammed the passenger door shut. “When Zodiac told me you were in trouble, I didn’t realize we’d find you tangled up with hot cop. No offense, Deputy.”

She blushed, hiding behind my shoulder as if she was trying to not be seen.

“What’s going on, Scorpio?” Zodiac asked, stopping a few feet away from us. “Deputy Rooker.” He was eyeing us both with great scrutiny, almost as if he was disappointed in me.

“Juliette got jumped by the Artillery.”

She pulled away from my back. “Wait? The Artillery? How do you know?”

“I know what the bastards look like. I’ve been stalking them for months. For some reason they are targeting the women in Rising Star, and right now Deputy Rooker is their number one target. We need to help her. Keep her safe.”

“Is this about the… well, you know,” Zodiac questioned, afraid to reveal too much.

“She knows everything, Zodiac, I’ve told her it all, even about the fire…”

“And you haven’t arrested his ass yet? Hell, I was ready to strangle him for what he did.”

She shook her head. “No, that drug house was one I’d been trying to eradicate for years, but Hollender always put a stop to it. Now I think I know why. I think he’s working with the Artillery.”

Zodiac shook his head. “We thought that too, but what makes you think that?”

“Because the second I started going behind his back to discount his evidence against Duncan, I’ve been noticing the Artillery following me around, now they pulled this shit. It’s obvious he’s on their payroll.”

Cap leaned against Zodiac’s car and frowned. “Too much bad shit has been going on lately. This world is going crazy.” He rubbed at his chest, a frown appearing on his face.

Gently, I pulled away from Juliette, walking over to my friend before patting him on the shoulder. “I’m sorry about your friend, Cap. If he was friends with you, then that means he was a good man.” Cap recently got a call that his best friend that he served overseas with committed suicide. He actually had talked to him the same day he shot himself, and never picked up on the signs that he was hurting. When Cap got the call he was gone, he was a mess, walked straight out of Church, and left on his bike. Said he needed to take a ride and clear his head. He hasn’t been the same since.

“The best… which is why his suicide still haunts me. Why? Why would he choose to kill himself?” He shook the thoughts out of his head and sighed. “That doesn’t matter right now, what matters is keeping the deputy safe. What do you suggest we do?”

“Well, if I’m right, then the mob is using the Artillery to flush me and her out. We’re going to have to cut off some heads to the Hydra before finding the monster within. I say we call church tomorrow and have a vote.”

Zodiac seemed apprehensive, but nodded. “You’re right. I don’t think this is going to end unless we put the right people behind bars. Which isn’t him,” Zodiac grumped, his eyes focusing on Juliette.

She held up her hands. “Oh, don’t worry. I’m on team Scorpio now. I want Hollender and the Artillery to go down just as much as you do, my only worry is that seedy detective sniffing around with the Pornstache.”
