“Consider it done, Ms. Griffin. I got this debate on lock.”
“On lock, huh?” Renee mocked playfully. “Your wife done rubbed off on you.”
“Yeah, probably,” Victor admitted with soft chuckle.
“Okay then, homeboy. Your team is in the conference room. They’re ready to conduct a mock debate.”
He went to follow Renee out of his office but paused when his cell phone vibrated in his pocket. He fished it out and saw that it was Jack calling him.
“I’ll meet you there,” he told Renee as he pushed to answer. “Jack, what’s up?”
“All should be well for now.”
Victor smiled. “Yes. I’ve gotten word. Thanks for your help.”
He walked over to the window and looked down at the busy downtown street.
“That’s the thing, Governor. It wasn’t me. When I put in a call, I was told the situation had already been handled.”
Something much more sinister was going on.
“What do you make of this whole thing?” Jack asked, breaking the silence.
“I don’t know, but I think it’s time for me to put in a call of my own. Thanks for your help, Jack.”
“No problem. Good luck to you.”
Victor disconnected the call, deciding it was time to call in the big dog. He tapped the screen to place the call and waited for an answer.
“Good morning,” came from a gruff voice on the other end of the line.
“Dad, I need your help.”
