The regal queen laughed, holding her belly to laugh all the more. “Zwick! That piece of work? He only wishes he could have the powers of the Bat. But that man is so vile, so revolting, no vampire with any pride would ever dig their fangs into his filthy flesh. No. Zwick desperately wished to be turned, but no one would drink of his blood.”

April’s piercing scream broke into the night’s calm. Dr.Ang broke away from the queen and joined Sonya as they ran to the sound of the screams.

Chapter 17

Thinking only of herdaughter’s safety, Sonya turned to run but Connie grabbed her arm and pulled her back.

“Not so fast, Songbird. The queen would like a...taste of you.”

Connie leaned in to bite her, exposing her fangs still virginal white; not the yellowed fangs that have seen years of blood.

Sonya tried to slap her away, but she came, eager for blood. She’d known this girl these past weeks, always so sweet, always so helpful...and now.

“Sorry about this, Connie.” She kicked hard in the knee, then jump kicked her in the belly, sending the regal queen, beautiful gown and all, flying back onto the pavement.

It took all but a split second for Connie to jump back to her feet. “You are much stronger than you appear, little one,” Connie said, her eyes determined. “But I am stronger, and I will have you.”

The possessed woman lunged at Sonya but stopped suddenly. Her eyes widened and looked out into space. Blood squirted from her mouth. The pointed end of a long samurai sword protruded from her belly. It disappeared, then swiftly swept across the regal vampire’s neck, cutting her head clean off.

Dr.Ang stood there behind where the queen had stood. He looked at the queen’s head then at the body. With his samurai sword still in hand, he looked at Sonya. “Let’s go find April.”

They ran to the cafeteria.

“Oh, crap,” Sonya let out.

April, sword in hand, was fighting off five vampires. They charged her, coming at her from all sides. She swung her sword as quickly as she could, slicing their arm or leg, but they came back to her again and again.

“Their heads!”Dr.Ang shouted.

April grabbed the sword with both hands and swung like a baseball bat, slicing off three heads with one swing. The other two were easy; a slice to the right and another to the left.

But it wasn’t over. More entered and attacked April.

“Where did these things come from?”Dr.Ang said as he assessed the situation.

Stunned, Sonya watched her daughter who defended herself with strength and agility. But what really stunned her were the vampires. Kitty, Betty and Lionel were now among those attacking her.
