Manifesting Powers

Alexander turned to face his cousin. I stared at Gabe whose full attention was on Angelique. He had a smile on his face until we realized what Melanie was saying. Gabe’s eyes blazed gold in an instant. I didn’t need a bond with him to know that if Angelique ran, my cousin was going to chase her to the ends of the earth.

Gage linked, “God, don’t let her run.” Angelique’s heart rate told me she was terrified. Oden chimed in, “The Demon / Angel won’t run because mate told her to stay.” It would be wise to stay, since I knew that my mate would probably help my cousin track Angelique down since Melanie wanted her friend to talk to Gabe.

EJ whispered to Gabe, “She’s just scared for you. Not of you, Gabe. You can sense what she is. She’s got a lifetime of fears of people being hurt because of her. Your mate knows how to survive.” Phil linked, “So, EJ made it better only to pour gasoline on the fire.” I replied, “My brother gave the pertinent details,” Phil rolled his eyes.

Gabe gritted his teeth saying, “No one will hurt my mate, and she will have no luck running from me. I do not need someone’s protection. People need protecting from me. No one will be able to save themselves when I find out who is hunting her. They are dead men and women walking.” I believed him and understood his feelings because I felt the same way about Melanie.

Mom was pissed she didn’t have Supernatural hearing again. She often said that wasn’t fair and I had to agree. The Hackura had great hearing. Fairies were one of the few that didn’t have enhanced hearing; however, they weren’t the only Supernatural’s without it.

There were many times I was grateful my mom didn’t have the hearing we did. A lot of women were jealous of my mother. Sometimes they just didn’t understand her or my siblings and their comments reflected that. If my mom heard that, well, lots of people would die.

Gabe was pissed Bounty Hunters were after his mate. I gave him a look he didn’t see because he was still staring at Angelique. Gage linked, “Yes, we all know it’s logical they are after his mate.” I snorted, “Of course people were after Angelique. Angels and Demons have some weird thing about them having children.” Gage said, “I know that, but let’s not say it out loud.”

Gabe already knew that even if we didn’t say it. Angels and Demons perpetuated this idea that their children would be crazy. It was just a deep seeded dislike for the other race. No one else but Angels and Demons believed that their offspring would be crazy. Fallen Angels were not of the same opinion.

Vampires and Werewolves don’t get along as a rule. There were still partial Vampire/Werewolf pups. They were just fine. Phil linked, “Your mate brings up a good point. Text our oldest cousin.” I probably didn’t need to because Hastein was probably about to head this way based on his brother’s feelings. Oden said, “But mate asked.” True. I would do anything for Melanie.

Me:You need to get to my shared office with my brothers. Bring Uncle Bjourn.

Hastein:What’s wrong with Gabe? His emotions are confusing.

Me:His mate is here and she’s being chased by Bounty Hunters.

Hastein:I will RIP THEIR MOTHERFUCKING GUTS OUT! We are coming.

That was bad for a lot of people, because Hastein did not make idle threats. Whoever was threatening Angelique hadmessed with the wrong family. I couldn’t help but growl at Melanie and her friends being called misfits.

Gage demanded, “Cool your jets.” I replied, “My mate is not a misfit! She is perfect and a genius.” Gage reasoned, “I know that, but they didn’t fit in where they were because they fit with us.” Fine. I accepted that logic.

Melanie started rambling about people Gabe would need to kill. Oh god. EJ and I exchanged looks. This was going to get even more interesting. When Hastein and Uncle Bjourn came through a portal, they were pissed. Both glanced at Melanie knowing she’d brought Gabe his mate.

I felt Melanie’s confusion. Phil linked, “Your mate doesn’t seem to understand that we are all wondering how many people she knows. Melanie is connecting a lot of people together.” I replied, “My mate also has people that need protection, and we could help with that. If only she could just give us all the details.” Phil replied, “This seems closer to that goal of us getting details. I’m taking it.”

I linked EJ, “Why do I feel like neither Angelique’s mother nor father wanted her to have their last name?” EJ shot me a look as he answered, “Because you’re smart. That’s exactly what happened.” I replied, “So many people are about to die.”

EJ responded, “They are bad people so I’m not going to be broken up about it. They’ve had Angelique in the shadows. If she’d been allowed to have a normal life she and Gabe might have met sooner.” He had a point.

Gabe had my wife rambling. I couldn’t help but smile at her. Melanie was adorable, but Gabe was not amused. I subconsciously stepped behind her. EJ linked me, “Gabe won’t hurt her.” I replied, “I know that.” I really did but this was still my mate, and my move was instinctual.

Eventually, Melanie confirmed what I already thought. Angelique’s family was horrible. Angelique gasped whenMelanie said she’d be a Cambridge. She looked at Valentina. I’d missed my brother Julian popping in. He had his arms wrapped around his Demon mate.

Valentina smiled broadly at Angelique and squeezed her hand. Melanie quickly said Gabe’s name before she left the room not noticing Hastein followed her out. Phil linked, “At least he will give us answers.” I replied, “Melanie is literally going to give an answer she told us she was getting.” My Beta shrugged.

Gabe walked over to Angelique and cupped her face with her hands. She smirked and surprised him by jumping into his arms and kissing him. Angelique pulled back, “Wow. The tingles are no joke. Huh. Who knew?”

Valentina laughed, “Mated people, A.” Angelique tapped Gabe’s nose with her finger saying, “Put me down please.” Gabe sighed but put her down even though the bond said he did not want to. My mate’s friend turned and studied me and EJ.

She pointed at me, “You MUST be Melanie’s Xander since you were the one with your arms around her.” Gage said, “You already told us you knew which one was him.” Angelique winked, “True. Seriously, do you all know you don’t have to be carbon copies of each other? You guys all look just like your dad.”

Valentina offered, “They have subtle differences.” Angelique snorted, “If you say so, Val. Anyway, I have a bone to pick with you, Melanie’s Xander.” Mom groaned, “Not this realm’s saying shit again. I have already fucking explained why that doesn’t make sense.”

I asked, “Why would you have anything to say to me?” Angelique replied, “Melanie is a good kid. She’s got her issues, but those are well past earned. She’s also loved you the entire time I’ve known her. Seriously, the whole time in a big and loud way.” Oden purred in my head.

Angelique continued, “She talks about you a lot, and in case you can’t tell from her rambling, you were mentioned a lot. Plus, her rambling got worse if anyone said she talked about you a lot. It’s cute and adorable, we all agree. You’re here with her and that’s good, but you messed up.”

I frowned, “What? How?” Oden grumbled, “Freya didn’t say anything.” Phil asked, “He did?” Gage echoed that, “Huh? What now?” Angelique studied them both before saying, “You are Beta Phil and Gamma Gage,. Before you ask, you two are quite the famous duo for Melanie to rant about as you are her Xander’s pack leadership.” Ok then.
