Wren

Aloudknockjoltedme awake, echoing through the room.

My ears twitched, and white paws stretched out in front of me as I yawned. Blinking, my surroundings came into focus. White walls, hard floors, and my handsome mate seated at his gray metal desk with stacks of papers on each side.

Rowan had set me up in a cozy blanket nest on the nook next to the open window in his office as it snowed. And I’d shifted to take a nap since he had to finish more paperwork.

“Come in,” Rowan said in a low voice.

The door opened, and Rhett stepped inside with Damien, Alister, and Thorn behind him.

My heart pounded at the sight of them, but a slight disappointment rolled through me as I realized Kian and Lachlan weren’t here, until I remembered they were in class.

Their gazes fell on me, and they each wore different shades of amusement.

Rhett’s lips twitched as his violet eyes held a glint of adoration. “Your fox form has to be the cutest thing ever.”

“So adorable,” Thorn murmured, and I flicked my tail in defiance.

“She’s dangerous,” Damien spoke up, saying exactly what I would’ve. Only I wouldn’t have added in the smirk, because I was, in fact, dangerous.

“Dangerous and adorable,” Alister corrected.

Forcing my little legs up, I hopped down and trotted behind Rowan’s desk before shifting back. The cold breeze from the open window brushed across my bare skin, and the guys let out sporadic groans.

“I could see you naked a thousand times and still get hard immediately.” Damien shoved his hand down his waistband to fix himself.

“Can’t disagree with that,” Alister purred.

“You are stunning,” Thorn added as Rhett directed his eyes to the ceiling.

Heat rushed through my body. They were my mates, and while the matebond hadn’t solidified with all of them yet, I still considered them just as much bonded to me as the ones who had.

Rowan grabbed a spare shirt of his that he had folded next to him and pulled it over my head. His ember scent wrapped around me, and the soft shirt hit me mid-thigh. I moved my hair out from the back of it and let it fall behind me.

“You smell good.” Rowan’s arms wrapped around my waist, and he pulled me on his lap with a growl.

He’d told me we had a meeting in a few hours, but he hadn’t had the chance to tell me what it was about because I’d fallen asleep.

Rhett’s eyes flicked down and met mine. He clutched a crumpled letter in his hands, and I lifted my nose to sniff the air.

There was a powerful feminine scent coming from the letter.

A guttural growl ripped from my throat before I could stop it, and Rowan’s hold on me tightened.

Why did he have a letter written by another woman? That was the first thought that ran through my head, and Thorn’s brows raised before he turned his attention toward the letter Rhett was holding.

“Who sent you that?” Thorn’s voice rang out in the room.

“The letter is why Rowan called this meeting,” Rhett said in a grave tone that made the hairs on my arms stand. “It has to do with Wren and me.”

What?My heart lurched into my throat.

The atmosphere turned tense. Rhett stepped forward and placed the letter on top of the desk.

“Explain,” Damien growled, and his shadows started to cover his body.

Rhett cleared his throat. “I received this a few days ago, before what happened with Mirella. I wanted to tell you all sooner, but Rowan and I didn’t think we should pile all that on Wren at once.” Rhett’s voice cracked, and my heart squeezed within my rib cage.
