Regret flashed in Rowan’s eyes before he shook his head. “You weren’t wrong.”

“But I was. It wasn’t anyone's fault but the human’s.”

Rowan nodded, and his gaze heated as he turned to me. “Would you like to wear my shirt?”

My cheeks heated, and I grabbed the shirt from the ground a few feet away. “This is actually yours.”

He smirked. “You wear them better.”

“She wears anything better,” Thorn agreed as we got dressed, and Rowan’s gaze seared into my skin.

“Let’s all head back to my room. Wren needs sleep, and she’s going to need us both close by to recharge her magical energy.”

Both... I had two matebonds surging through me, tangled together, and my soul was another step closer to being complete.

THIRTY-SIX

Wren

Ithasbeenacouple of weeks since being bonded to both Rowan and Thorn, and the other guys weren’t too happy that the Fates were taking so long to bond me with them.

There hadn’t been any more signs of the humans or how they got past the wards, but I was still to be with one of my mates, or potential mates, at all times.

Rowan had told me Grayson was expelled and that he would be too scared to try anything else. There was a lot of psychological torture involved after I left that day, and he sent an invitation for Alice to leave the village and come to the academy to teach Herbology Theory.

Tabitha had been able to verify that there was no spell that linked Alice and Grayson, which meant Grayson had lied. Rowan assured me he’d make Alice comfortable should she choose to come, but I wasn’t sure she would.

A wolf without a pack was frowned upon, but it had to be better than living in that village.

Trixie elbowed me, and I shook away my thoughts as I focused on what Alister was explaining. “Babe, you okay?”

I nodded. “My mind is just chaotic right now.”

“I’d say so. Whatever it is, is taking ogling time away from your potential mate,” she teased, and I smiled.

She had a point.

Ding!

Everyone’s tablet went off at once, including Alister’s, and he furrowed his brows as he paused his lesson to grab his tablet.

I clicked on the notification from the news sector of Kalista on my tablet, and my face drained of any blood.

BREAKING NEWS: DRAGONS IN BLEZEN DECLARE WAR ON HUMAN TERRITORY; HUMANS DECLARE WAR ON THE SUPERNATURAL RACES.

The class broke into an uproar, and my stomach clenched.

“Calm down, everyone,” Alister shouted. “Remember what Fate Hollow Academy is for. We are built for this.”

“This is our first year here!” a student hollered. “We aren’t ready to go to war!”

“You will not be thrown into war,” Alister stated. “There have been thousands of supernaturals graduate from this academy that are still of physical capability to fight. They will be called on first.”

“What about us?” another student asked, and I stared at Alister who raked a hand through his hair.

“Your training will most likely be expedited, but rest assured, you will not fight until you are ready.”

Damien appeared on my other side, and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “Don’t worry, little bird. I’ll protect you.”
