“I drank from her,” Kai spoke up, slipping a heated gaze toward me.
“So did I, mate. But I don’t have any new powers,” Blaise grumbled, shifting in his seat to adjust himself.
Aziel crossed his arms and tilted his head. “Thaddeus’s powers were amplified. Have either of you used your powers lately?”
“Haven’t tried to,” Kai said before standing up.
“Go on, try it!” I bounced back on the balls of my feet. “I want to know if yours are amplified too.”
He nodded, and almost immediately everyone relaxed.
Calmness spread through us like wildfire, and I grinned at him.
“You fucking did it!”
“Seriously? It was that easy?”
Blaise nodded. “If the calmness was you, then yeah.”
“Bloody brilliant,” Thaddeus mumbled. “Go on, Blaise, try something.”
Blaise shrugged and walked over to Kai, slapping a hand on his shoulder.
Kai smacked his hand off his shoulder with a mock shiver. “Come on, mate, it looks like you’re trying to kiss me. You know I only have eyes for Lilith.”
“Sod off, wanker.” Blaise squeezed his shoulder again and shut his eyes.
Kai’s eyes rolled back into his head, and they froze.
My brows rose. “What’s happening?”
Thaddeus swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “It’s safe to say your blood has increased our powers, but my question is why?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Aziel snarled. “She’s a fucking hybrid.”
“I’m not daft, demon,” Thaddeus snapped.
I rolled my eyes at them. “Right. Point is, I’m both a demon and a vampire. So, I hold more powers than a regular vampire, obviously.”
“Knowing that drinking the blood of another vampire can give powers means that Victor probably has a lot of powers that we can’t even begin to predict.” Thaddeus’s jaw ticked. “I thought it was a sodding rumour.”
Blaise sucked in a sharp breath, and Kai blinked several times as he backed away from him.
Both of their eyes shot open.
Black tears streaked down Blaise’s cheeks, and Kai’s lips pressed into a firm line as they stared at each other.
“What happened?” I stepped in between them, glancing back and forth.
Blaise sniffed, wiping the tears with the back of his hand. “Bloody hell, Kai. I didn’t fucking know all that.”
“Yeah.” Kai’s voice broke. “But he’s in Hell, and he’ll be there for the rest of his life.”
My heart sank. “You saw Kai’s past?”
Blaise sniffed, eyes bloodshot. “I knew it was bad, but I didn’t know it was like that.”
Kai’s shoulders were trembling, and I went over to him and wrapped my arms around him. “I’m sorry. You’re having to relive your past too much.”
