What kind of shit was that?

“We need someone who can go through all this shit and follow up with the leads.” Blaise rubbed his eyes.

A light bulb flicked on in my head, and I stood up from my chair. “That’s a great idea!”

I snatched the envelope opener off my desk and rushed to the shelf on the wall to retrieve a glass jar of ash from the heart of Hell.

Popping the top off with my thumb, I poured a bit of the ash onto the ground before putting it back on the shelf with the top. Walking back over, I sliced my palm open, letting my blood drip and mix in with the ash.

The ash glowed black, crackling with energy as a fragment of essence flowed from my wound to it, pulling my wound open slightly.

“What the fuck, Poppy?” Blaise came up beside me.

“What’re you doing?” Kai was on my other side.

“Are you...creating a demon?” Thaddeus tilted his head from his spot beside my desk. “Right now?”

Aziel chuckled, ruffling his dark hair. “Amateurs.”

I bit back a smirk and closed my eyes, centering my thoughts on the qualities I’d like this demon to have.Diligent, loyal, intelligent, ambitious, and strong.

An icy splash spread through my hand, up my arm, and toward my chest before a flicker of pain rumbled through me. I winced, stumbling back a bit. Aziel’s arms wound around me, and he helped hold my hand over the ash as the prickling healing sensation expanded over my wound.

I opened my eyes in time to see the ash swirl around, forming into a demon my height. His skin was a unique light green, and he had white horns sticking up from short purple hair.

A scent of paper and ash came from him, and I smiled. “Baylor.”

He blinked as his orange eyes came into focus then dropped down on one knee in front of me. “Mother.”

I grabbed a throw blanket from the bed and draped it over his shoulders. “You can stand.”

“Shit,” Kai mumbled, eyes wide as he stared at Baylor.

Thaddeus’s eyes were trained on Baylor as well, and he pursed his lips as if he were deep in thought. I’d have killed to know what was going on in his brain. Blaise was lucky to have the power he did.

Blaise ran a hand through his hair. “Well, fuck.”

Aziel pressed a kiss to my head. “Good job, my beloved.”

Baylor tilted his head. “Are the vampires unaware of your power?”

Aziel snickered as the guys threw him a glare.

I waved my hand back and forth. “No, I think they’re aware, but they haven’t seen all my powers yet.”

“What are all your bloody powers?” Blaise asked.

Shifting my weight to my other foot, I shrugged. “As a demon, I can manifest hellfire, manipulate sin, teleport, and turn beings into ash.”

“On top of your vampire powers?” Kai asked.

“She’s a sodding weapon,” Thaddeus said with a smirk.

“Anyway, Baylor.” I turned toward my newly made demon with a smile. “The one with long hair brooding is Thaddeus.” I pointed at him as he glared at me.

“Blaise is the cocky one with tattoos.” I jerked my thumb to my right, and he laughed.

“Kai is the sweet one with the pretty blue eyes.” I jerked my thumb to the left, and Kai smiled.
