The words rolled off his lips like honey, and I was fucking mesmerized.
“What the fuck does that mean?” Blaise snapped.
“What prophecy?” Kai asked.
“Prophecy?” My attention snapped back.
Aziel nodded. “I don’t know what the prophecy is, but I know it’s about you.”
What the fuck does that mean?
“There’s a prophecy about me?” I echoed his statement. “That’s bullshit.”
The vampires shared looks.
“I don’t trust him,” Thaddeus growled.
“Same,” Blaise agreed. “Now, move your hand off her fucking leg.” He leaned forward and went to bat his hand away from my leg with his vampire speed, but Aziel batted him back with a threatening look.
Blaise let out an exasperated sound and rolled his eyes.
Kai gave a small wave of the hand. “I also think he should stop touching you.”
I grabbed his hand to move it to make the guys feel somewhat more comfortable, but he laced his fingers through mine. Warmth from his touch zipped to my pendant and warmed my skin where it touched.
I touched the pendant with my other hand and felt a tug of energy from him to the stone. “What’s this?”
Jax smiled. “It’s your memories. They’re calling out to me.”
“Memories?” My head was starting to spin.
“The fire opal hanging from your neck holds memories of before your wreck,” he said in a riddle.
How could my memories cause that feeling? I remembered everything since I was a young child. As far as I knew, I didn’t lack any memories.
“This demon is dodgy.” Blaise turned his nose up.
“No.” My voice was firm. “He isn’t.”
I blinked. Why did I defend him so fast? The guys had a logical reason not to trust him.
“Just because he’s been your cat your whole life doesn’t mean you should trust him,” Thaddeus said.
“I can’t explain it,” I shook my head, feeling empowered by Aziel’s stare. “It feels like an intense soul-level bond I can’t deny. We’re connected.”
“You’re getting the idea,” Aziel said.
“But you wouldn’t have known he was a demon if he hadn’t revealed himself last night,” Kai argued.
Last night was fucking crazy. Guilt slammed into me. It was my fault we’d decided to drink and let our guard down. The only thing that semi-saved our asses was Thaddeus not drinking. We would’ve been totally fucking screwed if Aziel hadn’t saved us.
“I’m so sorry.” My head dropped into my hands. “It’s my fault. I mean, why the fuck did I push celebrating? I knew Viktor was still an issue. I even tried to get Thaddeus to drink.”
A weight from Thaddeus’s hand rested on my ankle. “You’ve been through a lot.”
“Don’t discredit yourself, Poppy.” Blaise’s hand weighed on my lower leg.
“Nobody knew we’d be attacked,” Kai said as he squeezed my thigh.
