“Can you explain now, demon?” Thaddeus asked, his tone drenched in anger.

Jax moved up in bed to sit, his shoulder touching mine. “I can now that she is awake.”

Kai huffed out an irritated breath.

“What happened after I passed out?” I glanced around the room at the guys, who were all pissed off except for my former cat.

“The demon wouldn’t stop fucking touching you, and he insisted on laying next to you until you woke up. We didn’t trust him, so we stayed here as well,” Blaise explained.

“We tried removing him from the manor, but he went all hellfire on us.” Thaddeus narrowed his eyes at Jax.

I rolled my bottom lip in my mouth, trying to wrap my mind around the fact that my cat had been a demon my entire life.

“You always stole my panties.” I shot him an accusatory stare. “And you watched me undress and bathe and sleep and…” My face heated up.

His eyes twinkled as his voice dropped low. “Pleasure yourself?”

Heat shot up my neck, and I could’ve sworn smoke blew out of my ears.

“Mate, that’s kind of hot,” Blaise added, eyes glazing over with lust.

“Don’t embarrass her like that!” Kai sputtered, face turning a faint shade of red.

I waved my flat hand from side to side. “I’m not embarrassed, just surprised.”

Jax sat up and leaned in, brushing his nose against mine teasingly. “You should never be embarrassed with me.”

Thaddeus let out a growl. “Stop getting so close to her and explain yourself.”

Jax side-glanced him with a lazy expression. “I don’t answer to you.”

I sighed. “Jax, please explain tomewhy you’ve been pretending to be my cat all these years.”

A smirk came over his lips and he turned back to me as if the guys were no longer in the room. “Because I am yours.”

His face showed no indication of lying, and I could feel in the depths of my fucking soul the love I had for him. I had no idea where it came from, though.

“What do you mean by that?” My tone was breathless. “Is your name even Jax?”

“Aziel is my full name, but my nickname is Jax.” He tilted his head. “I’ve been in cat form for years to guard and protect you. When the accident happened...” Self-blame was etched on his face. “I should’ve been there to protect you. I couldn’t believe you’d been turned into a vampire.”

“Why were you protecting me?”

“I can’t tell you everything just yet, and it fucking tears me up inside that I can’t.” He snarled. “You’re the most precious thing in the world to me, and I love you with all of my being.”

My chest soared. The feelings I’d felt as soon as I’d seen his true form were more than reciprocated, but I didn’t know where they came from or why. “Love?”

“You feel it too. You know you do.” His hand slipped up my inner thigh. “I can’t tell you everything, but I can drop hints.”

A buzzing hummed through my veins, centering in my core.

Jax...Aziel...oozes sex appeal.

Blaise grunted, rolling his eyes.

“Bloody tell her something then,” Kai prompted.

“Very well.” Aziel rubbed circles on my inner thigh and blew out a breath. “Muddled is your mind, clear is your heart, your soul’s in a bind, you’re a work of art, trust in your guard, for the prophecy is barred.”
