“And you’re nottechnicallydead,” Thaddeus said.
“Shit.” I rubbed my forehead. “My mom must be freaking out. Don’t even get me started with my brothers.” As I shot up from the ground, they stood with me. “What about that...animal I hit? Is it—”
“It wasn’t an animal,” Thaddeus gritted out.
“And it’s fucking dead,” Blaise answered.
“We killed it,” Kai assured.
I stiffened. “What was—”
“Why don’t you use the ensuite to wash up?” Thaddeus pointed to the door on the other side of the room. “Consider this room yours.”
Mine?
“There are clean clothes in the drawers.” Kai dragged his gaze up and down the length of my body, sending jolts of heat down my spine. “I picked them out. I hope I have your size right.”
“We’ll explain everything after you clean up and take some time to process,” Blaise said.
I hesitated. There was a lot I needed to figure out, but my skin was coiled tight with all the blood dried on it. “Can I trust you?”
“I sure hope so. We broke the law when we turned you. Which means you owe us.” Thaddeus’ eyes darkened. “Canwetrustyou?”
As if I’d do anything to be disloyal to these scary but also hot vampires.
I gave a slight nod before padding over to the door and turning the knob. I glanced back to see all three standing, staring at me. “I’m trustworthy, okay? It’s like my best trait. Now, can I please showerwithoutan audience?”
I blinked, and Thaddeus was gone.
Kai grinned. “I’ll go, but only because I’m a gentleman.” Then he was gone.
“I’m no gentleman, but I’ll respect your request, Poppy.” Blaise smirked. “Just yell for me if you change your mind.” And then he was gone too.
I stepped inside the bathroom and shut the door behind me. A whoosh of air left my lungs as I locked the door.
What the fuck is happening to me?
Why were there three hot vampires?
Why am I a vampire?
What does this all mean?
My mother must’ve already lost her mind, and my brothers must’ve turned the whole town of Emeraldsville, Alaska, onto its side. Not to mention, my boyfriend was probably drowning in a pool of his own tears. A little stab of guilt appeared as I thought about him.
Stop lusting after the vampires, and start thinking like a sane person, Lilith. You have to go home.
I sighed, walking across the cold, white tile toward the floor-to-ceiling mirror situated beside the white marble Jack and Jill sinks.
I’d always wanted to be different, but this isn’t what I’d meant.
I flinched when I brought my gaze up to the mirror.
My ginger hair was matted and full of knots, with dried blood clumped in patches of hair. Dark crimson also covered my face, flaking from the movement of facial expressions like cracked earth.
I averted my gaze and fumbled with the buttons of my flannel dress, and after slight resistance...Riiiiiip.The dried blood hardened the material, making an audible smack as the dingy fabric split and dropped to the floor.
Oh, well. I hated that dress anyway.
