“You drank blood, yes,” Kai answered, taking a seat next to me.

“What happened to me last night?” I ran my fingers over my matted hair.

“That’s the thing…” Blaise dropped down on my other side. “It wasn’t last night. It’s been a...couple of weeks.”

Thaddeus squatted down in front of me. “We didn’t think you were going to awaken.”

“Awaken? Let me just…” I held up a finger and took a couple more deep breaths as I connected the dots. “You’re vampires, and somehow, you turned me into one too?”

“Yep.” Kai popped the P at the end.

“Fantastic,” I replied dryly. “And howexactlydid you turn me?”

“To become a vampire, you have to be close to death. Which you were. I bit your neck and started draining your blood until your heartbeat,”—Thaddeus reached out and tapped my chest—“slowed enough. Then I cut my wrist and let my blood seep into your bloodstream from the wound I made on your neck. You passed out right after.”

Well, that’s fucking complicated.

“And then what?” My voice wobbled.

“And then we brought you to our home and waited for you to wake up,” Blaise answered.

“Is anyone else here?” I glanced around.

“Only the pixies. They keep to themselves and take care of the manor and the grounds. You likely won’t run into them,” Thaddeus said.

“Pixies?”

“You know, tiny humanoids with wings and magic?” Blaise answered.

Pixies are real?“That’s cool as fuck.”

“Sure is,” Kai said.

I rubbed the layer of blood and dirt caked on my hand off the best I could. “You couldn’t have washed me up a bit?” I grimaced.

Not to mention, I stink.

“We didn’t want to overstep,” he said.

I snorted. “Sucking humanity out of me and taking me home is fine, but cleaning grime is off-limits, huh?”

“I could help you wash up now, if you’d like.” Blaise leaned a bit closer, and my breath hitched at the thought.

“The problem is, during the transition, the body becomes weak,” Thaddeus said. “You should’ve been in outward physical and emotional pain for at least a week.”

“But you stayed comatose for a fortnight,” Kai stated.

“A fortnight?”

“Two weeks.”

I sucked in a shaky breath. “My body was broken...My bones shattered from the impact. How’d I walk away from that even if you turned me?”

Kai placed a hand on my shoulder. “Vampires heal incredibly fast. You healed during your transition.”

“So, this isn’t a dream? I’m not dead?”

Blaise shook his head. “You’re not dreaming.”
