“Titan.” He flashed a boyish grin at me. “What do you think, Kalyke?”
“King Zelek would’ve already notified us,” the man with bright blue hair, I assumed he was the fae, stated. “And she wouldn’t be a vampire.”
Thaddeus wrapped an arm around me and pressed me to his side. “What’re you talking about?”
Gabriel clicked his tongue as he took his seat on the far left. “I thought we told you three to train her—”
“—not fuck her,” Titan finished with a raised brow at me.
“What’s the fun in that?” I muttered, and Thaddeus squeezed me tighter to him as if to tell me to shut up.
Titan smirked, and Blaise stepped forward. “We did train her, sir. She has excellent abilities.”
“Very well. She seems to have enthralled you three.” Kalyke said, standing up and walking over toward me. “Let’s see what she can do.”
Thaddeus let me go, and the guys stepped back as Kalyke approached me.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Fae blood is the most enchanting,” he told me, holding his palm out toward me. “If you can resist it, you can resist it all.”
Thaddeus growled low, and Kai stepped forward.
“Excuse me, but this is dangerous. She’s only been a vampire for—”
“Silence.” The fae told Kai without even glancing at him. “She will do this, or she will fail.”
I crossed my arms over my chest. “Show me what you got, fae-dude.”
Wind struck his palm like a whip, slicing through the skin. A sweet, tangy smell filled the air, and I noticed all three of my guys stiffen.
My throat scorched, throbbing as the scent entered my nostrils and teased my senses. It smelled fucking divine, but I reached up to grab my pendant. My mouth filled with saliva.
I hissed from the churning of my stomach, sweat collecting behind my neck as I willed myself not to give in to hunger. Corbin’s last words were for me not to die. His blood hadn’t been appetizing in the slightest when it spilled beneath him because of the emotional turmoil his death had on me.
I couldn’t fail this trial, not even for the blood of the fae. I wouldn’t have Corbin’s death be in vain.
If I could just link the devastation from last night with the fae’s blood…
My appetite snapped as revulsion undermined the temptation entirely. The burning pain ceased.
I blew out a steady stream of air and straightened my posture, meeting his gaze straight on. “Am I supposed to be impressed?”
Kalyke smiled, dropping his hand as it healed up, skin weaving back together. “She passes the first trial.” He turned and walked back to his seat.
Relief surged through me. I almost lost control.
“Commence the second trial,” Gabriel said.
Titan stood and came over to me with caution in his steps. “Moth—Lilith…” He hesitated, staring at me with a strange air of respect I didn’t expect to see. “We’ve heard of your powers. Would you demonstrate them to me?”
“Sure.” I reached out and placed my palm on his bare shoulder. Comfort and warmth flooded from me to him and back like an electric current, and I gasped. “Sorry. Not sure what that was.”
“It’s okay.” He gave me a warm smile. “Show me what you can do.”
Adjusting my grip on him, I stared into his black eyes and focused. “Spin around three times and then show me one of your powers.”
I let him go, and sure enough, he spun around three times and lifted his arm. Blue flames ignited on his skin, and the heat was higher than I’d ever felt before from being just a few feet away from him.
