Move.
“Kai!” His name ripped out of my throat as I propelled myself forward in a speedy blur. I drove my shoulder into its hard body, knocking it to the side.
It bellowed as Kai zipped toward it and shoved his hand inside, combusting the green orb.
Blaise and Thaddeus had approached us in between the trees.
Kai was in front of me, cupping my face, and pulling me into a kiss in seconds. I smiled against his lips and wrapped my arms around his neck to deepen it.
“You’re welcome,” I mumbled between kisses.
“That was bloody brilliant,” Blaise said, stealing me from Kai’s embrace and pulling me into his own.
Excitement trickled down my belly to my lower abdomen from the praise.Damn right.
He let me go, and Thaddeus edged close to me.
“You fared better than I thought you would, love.” He clamped a warm hand over my shoulder and squeezed.
I was brimming with happiness, practically radiating, and it was all because I finally felt like I was a part of something bigger. I may have fucked up more times than not, but I saved Kai tonight.
My life actually had a purpose, maybe the voice from Hell was right after all.
“I feel something,” Kai said with his eyes trained on me and brows drawn together.
“What?” I asked.
“Pride. An overwhelming amount of it. I’m fucking proud of her, but I don’t think that’s mine,” Blaise said with a shake of the head.
Thaddeus nodded as he leaned against a nearby tree. “Seems like you’ve mastered another emotion, love.”
Being a vampire fucking rocked.
NINE
I set the tray of iced coffee on the table with a loud clunk in front of the three grumpy vampires.
“Iced coffee with a shot of espresso and two shots of blood. Drink up.” I winked, grabbing my own glass and sipping from the straw. The thick, sweet concoction lit up my taste buds in the most delectable way. Adding blood to the coffee had been the best idea ever.
They eyed the tray with hesitant stares.
“Go on,” I pressed.
Kai was the first to grab the glass and take a sip. “Mmm,” he moaned. “Proper scrummy.”
I beamed at him. “Damn right. Blaise, Thaddeus, your turn! You need the bloodandthe caffeine.”
Blaise snorted. “Yeah, because you had us running around bloody bonkers worrying about you last night.” He grabbed his glass and plucked out the straw before bringing the glass to his lips to drink it. “Fuck, all right.”
I huffed. “I wasn’t completely useless last night.”
Thaddeus let out a defeated sigh before grabbing his glass. “You did better than I expected, but you froze. The first one you encountered almost killed you, love,” he reminded me before he took his first drink.
His eyes widened a fraction before he smoothed out his features becauseHell forbid he enjoy what I made.
All three of them sucked down their coffees within minutes of getting them and then splurged on two bags of blood each. Last night had taken a toll on them all, and if I was honest, it did me too.
Hunting creatures I hadn’t known existed was a learning experience.
