Kai grabbed my shoulder and blinked a few times. “What’re you thinking about?”
“Um,” I glanced down with a pout. “I was thinking about how jealous of you guys I was. You can do some cool vampire stuff, and I can just make you angry and hard.”
“You can apparently make us jealous, too,” Blaise told me, rubbing his cheek.
The guys shared a look.
“Now, if only you could control it,” Kai added. “I guess I could add another lesson to my training…”
“No!” I answered quickly, and he shot me an offended look. “I’m too close to graduating from your training. I want to visit my family and get my cat back. So I have to move on to Blaise’s training.”
They shared collective sighs.
“You’re not going to be finished with Kai’s lessons when you graduate from him. He’s going to be keeping tabs with you daily. You still have the likelihood of going into blood-lust,” Thaddeus mentioned.
“You’re still struggling with control when it comes to blood-lust unless you’re holding his hand,” Blaise said.
I rolled my eyes. “Way to make me sound like a child instead of a new vampire.”
“When you feel turned on, angry, or jealous, try to focus that feeling inward and not outward, so you’re not affecting everyone else. Okay?” Kai stepped closer, cupping my face between his palms.
My heart jumped, and desire flooded me again. I focused the feeling in my lower abdomen and didn’t let it trickle or spread anywhere. “How’s that?”
He nodded. “Now push it onto just me. Not Thaddeus or Blaise.”
I let the feeling spread from me to him through where his hands touched my face.
Kai’s eyes rolled back into his head as he grinned. “Ace. I’m hereby passing you. You’ve learned an adequate amount of control for a new-blood. We have to move you on to make sure you’re prepared before the full moon. I’ll check in with you every evening with mini-lessons on control.”
I rolled my bottom lip into my mouth. “I thought you said I’d get a kiss as a reward?”
Kai’s eyes twinkled before his lids closed, and his lips met mine. It was a sweet, sensual kiss. His lips moved against mine as he cupped my face, and comfort mixed with desire overwhelmed me. I moved my arms up to dangle around his shoulders, and I pushed a hand through his thick hair.
He broke the kiss, dropping his hands to his side and giving me a million-watt smile before turning and leaving the kitchen.
I blinked after him.
“That was cute,” Blaise said.
My hand moved to my chest as I spun to face him. “It was more than cute, thanks.” I looked around and noticed Thaddeus must’ve left.
Shit. They watched me kiss Kai.
He smirked. “Training with me starts tomorrow, Poppy.”
I nodded, pressing my palms to my cheeks where Kai’s had been. “Where?”
“In the gym after your run. Don’t bother with a shower.” He stepped closer, his nose inches away from mine as he inhaled a deep breath. “You smell like nightshade.”
My heart thumped so hard it was dizzying before he took a reluctant step back.
“When you graduate my lessons, know you’ll be gettingmuchmore than a kiss for your reward.”
Heat rushed between my legs, and before I could open my mouth to reply, Blaise was gone too.
I let out a breath and groaned.
What the hell were we talking about before all that?
