We both took bites and he shrugged. “I don’t know what to say.”

“Anything. Favorite color. Favorite breakfast. Things you hate. Pet peeves.”

“Any kind of green. I love any breakfast food but hate to eat in the morning. I’m a coffee and maybe a protein-bar kind of person. Things I hate? Awkward conversations and side hugs. Pet peeves? I don’t know. A yucky bathroom.”

I made lots of mental notes.

“What else?” I pressed.

“I love my tattoo. And I really, really like you.”

My chest constricted. Maybe Darris was right. Maybe Brent was one of those omegas who was reserved and then fell hard. I’d already fallen in love ten times over. “I really like you too.”

We talked until our pints were finished and we ran out of topics. The moon had shifted and hours had passed when Brent sighed. Damn it. Was this date over so soon?

“Do you want me to take you home?” I asked. “It’s getting late.”

Brent turned. His scent shifted to something muskier, a heady vanilla with hints of rum. “Yes, but not tomyhouse.” He leaned forward and kissed me, running his fingers through the back of my hair. “I want you to take me to your home, alpha.”

I pulled back. “I thought…”

He put his finger over my lips. “Stop thinking and take me home, Theo.”

Chapter Ten

Brent

He agreed to take me home. To his home, with its open land around it and a feeling of freedom my apartment could never offer. The first time I came here, I didn’t get much of a look around, and judging from the ten minutes or so of kissing before we even got out of the car, that wasn’t going to be any different tonight. At least not for a while. Theo’s drugging kisses made me forget everything except his lips. And tongue. And teeth teasing at my lower lip.

Then they stopped. “Omega, it would be a lot more comfortable in my bed. But if you’d like to make love here…”

“Not here.” Good job wording. “Bed.”

He opened his door and before I had time to reach for the passenger-side handle, he’d opened my door and was reaching in, offering me a hand. I placed mine in his, and he drew me up and right into his arms.

Kissing commenced again, leaving me unsure which of us started it, but maybe it didn’t matter. What did, I managed to hold enough brain power to acknowledge, was that we’d be doing the deed right in front of his home. I didn’t think any neighbors were close enough to see, but the ground looked awfully hard.

Any issues vanished when he scooped me up, one arm under my knees, and carried me toward the front door.

“Theo, I’m too heavy.” Not that much smaller than him. How strong was he? He’d done this before, but not that far.

“You’re like a feather. I could fly away holding you.”

“You couldn’t…what?”

He gave me a squeeze then shifted me to one arm to unlock the door. “Nothing.”

Inside the door, I wriggled to get down, but Theo only tightened his hold, nuzzling my cheek. “I’m not letting you go until we get to my bed, omega. Not wasting another moment.”

“Are you saying the time we spend together not naked is wasted?”

“Never.” He marched, holding me tight, never so much as wavering.

“Aren’t your arms tired?” They should be trembling with fatigue. Anyone’s would be.

“Not at all.”

“I’m starting to think you’re a superman. Where’s your cape? Or do you have hidden wings?”
