The Dragon's Marked Mate

My first night with my fated mate wasn’t supposed to be a one-night stand.

Raised in foster care, I became a hot mess of abandonment issues. How could I not? My parents left me for reasons kept from me, and the staff of my first group home reminded me daily how unwanted I was. And how useless. I’d never amount to anything. Only one person treated me with any kindness, and that boy found his forever home long before I did.

Things got better when I was adopted by a family who treated me as one of their own. But being the only dragon in a den of bears came with its own set of issues, especially after my first shift. Accidentally burning down the cubs’ favorite play structure wasn’t intentional, but no one believed me except my family.
They love me and have never treated me as anything less than, going so far as to move from the den to give me a better life. I owe them everything and have nothing to give in return. Even my stint at the family tattoo parlor is an epic fail, thanks to the nightmares growing by the day.

I need something that will burn the night terrors away, and firefighting seems like the perfect solution. And it is, for a time. Then Brent, the bestie of my brother’s new mate, stumbles into my life.
My dragon wants Brent the second he sees him, and I think he feels the same. But, after a night together, I wake up alone. He’s gone, and my dragon wants to burn the city looking for him.

My life is the nightmare, one I can’t get out of. Not even my “gift,” the one that I tell no one about, can save me.
