Marius looked at him, puzzled. “You don’t? But... that would be the only suitable reward for what you’ve done, hell, it’s not even enough...I thought this was your dream...you could go home, it’s not far from here you know?” He felt so much pain, but he was determined to carry it through, out of his love for him.

“No!” He grasped Marius’ shoulder, his fingers digging into his flesh. “Promise me! Promise me you won’t do it.”

“Kyle...”

“Just promise... please...” His eyes begged him, full of tears.

“I can’t make such a promise... it would be foolish. Circumstances change and I might need to free you...”

“No... please...”

Marius sighed, looking at him.He is truly desperate... what the...He stroked his face. “Alright.... Can I at least put it in my will that if I die, you are to be freed? I don’t want you to end up in a bad place.”

“Yes... maybe?”

Marius smiled, trying to reassure him. “Then I promise not to free you whilst I’m alive. Happy?”

Kyle relaxed a bit, breathing out. “Yes...”, but his eyes were still full of fear and Marius pulled him into his chest.

“I would have hated to be without you, but I thought I’d make you happy...”

“I’m happy with you. The rest doesn’t matter...” He pushed his head into Marius’ chest, feeling his warmth, inhaling his scent, his mouth on his skin, his salty taste on his tongue.

He licked Marius' skin, planting soft kisses on, it and he felt him shudder, goose bumps rising under his lips.

Marius’ voice, amused. “If you don’t stop, we won’t sleep...”

Kyle didn’t stop, and licked his way down Marius’ body, making him moan and roll his eyes back.

The camp doctor examined Clavius’ scar, gently probing it. “Impressive healing... I couldn’t have done any better... well, maybe sewing it together would have minimized the size of it, but the tissues healed nicely. Any pain?”

“Yes, sometimes, in the bone.” Clavius rubbed his face, grinning. “But I don’t give a shit, I’m alive. Thanks, doctor.”

He strode back to the officer’s building, knocking on Marius’ door, waiting to be called in. He poked his head in. “Interrupting?”

Marius looked at him, amused. “No... I already did a morning briefing, remember?”

“How could I forget? Your mighty commanding look with those dark circles around your eyes...” Marius smirked but didn’t comment. “Where’s your love boy?”

“He went to get breakfast.”

Clavius walked to him. “Sit down. So... the men are shit scared of you. Rumor says that you’ve been possessed by some demons and have lost your mind.” Marius remained quiet, his blue eyes not giving anything away. “So?”

“So... maybe there’s some truth in that... I wasn’t myself.”

Clavius sighed. “It will take a lot of work to make this right.”

“I know...”

“You have to behave like a real commander and control your temper...”

“Yes...”

“Quit drinking...”

Marius waved his hand. “I got it.”

“Really? I hope so. That young centurion did a damn good job of keeping your reputation up.”
