“Erica, please, just let it go,” I pleaded with her.

“Okay,” she said. She gave a small nod and smiled at me. “Are you ready for your interview?”

I groaned. How could I have forgotten about that? I was supposed to have my final job interview today, and I had been a nervous wreck for days. I had spent almost a day picking out my clothes – a well-fitted pencil skirt and a buttoned-down shirt. Erica had twisted my hair into a French twist, and I had finished the outfit with some light makeup.

“It starts in an hour,” I said, sighing. “This is my dream job, Erica. I have to get this at all costs. What if I mess up? You know how clumsy and awkward I can be! What if I end up spilling coffee on them?”

“Then make sure you do everything you can to stay away from any sort of beverage!” Erica quipped.

“Knowing my luck, I’ll conjure coffee out of thin air and then spill it on them,” I said, shaking my head.

Erica burst out laughing, and I joined her. Well, whatever happened, at least I would have Erica with me.
