I stare at her with wide eyes.
“Did you take your meds this morning, sweetie?”
She blinks and narrows her eyes at me. “You are not nice.”
“You are a lunatic.”
“Bitch.”
“Cunt face.”
“!” We both scream at the same time and dissolve into giggles.
“Boys, just come this way, trust me. You want to just let them get it out of their system,” Dad whispers. “Come, come. I have food.”
I stay, waiting until everyone is gone before I look up at the screens.
“You all right, Sarry?”
She pushes her hood back, revealing an exotically beautiful woman around my own age. “I’ve been hearing rumours about a serial killer hunting another one. A cat-and-mouse game. From here.”
Here. Where they are from. The city.
“He went quiet, and for all intents and purposes, it looks like he’s dead. Up until last night, I was in the morgue.”
“As one is,” I say with a smile.
“And I found a homeless alpha with a familiar marking.” She pauses. “You told me they were trying to kill someone really badly? What if they thought it was the killer?”
I stiffen, staring at her face. “Did I kill the wrong person?”
“Yes. I think Marrow is still alive. Which means he knows it’s them. And he will be coming after them.”
I hesitate. Thinking about those letters. What if he doesn’t think it’s them?
“What are you thinking?” Sariah asks, but I think she knows anyway.
“I’ll take care of it.”
Sariah smiles. “Okay, babe. Let me know if you need a hand. I’m only a short drive away. I can be down there with my knives in just a few hours.”
I blow her a kiss.
“Rest in pieces.”
“Indeed,” she purrs. “See you in a few weeks, babes.”
I wait as the screen flashes to black, and she’s gone before I give myself a moment to appreciate what this asshole has done.
Should I tell them?
Maybe.
I’ll let them know after they’ve gotten to know everyone a bit better. But I don’t want them to worry. Not yet. Not until I’m sure.
If I’m right, then there is a good chance this serial killer thinks the person he is after is me. And if that’s true…well, he’s got no idea who he’s fucking with.
I’ll take care of him, and he’ll never be a threat again.
