I’m stumped. Completely and utterly shocked because no alpha has been able to resist the lure of Pix’s scent. He’s potent in the most deadly of ways, and alphas immediately forget everything to be with him.
“You feel nothing?” My father asks.
“Were we supposed to?” Cyn asks in confusion. He leans in and sniffs Pix. “I can smell omega?”
My father blinks quickly and then lets out a bellowing laugh and hits a burger hard, sending flames high off the grill.
“Yay, we’re keeping them,” Meredith says as she glides past, looking supremely bored.
“Mere?” Meg purrs. “I’ve got some new books for you.”
Meredith stops and turns just her head. “Just out? One I’ve been hunting for?”
“Yes,” Meg half pulls it out of her handbag. “But you need to do your part.”
Meredith sighs heavily, turns, and stomps back to my alphas. She settles on Rory and punches him as hard as she can in the balls.
He howls.
“What the fuck, Meredith?” I scream.
“You hurt my sister, you dick bag. If you ever try anything like that again, I’ll turn your balls into p?té and feed you to an old folks’ home.”
Meg winces. “Old duck factory, not old folks’ home, geez, Mere, we’re not cannibals.”
“It’s not my fault your writing is terrible,” Meredith complains, breaking her performance to glower at Meg.
I don’t even know what to do right now.
“Now the rest of it,” Meg says. “Or no payment.”
“Seriously?” Mere growls. “You seriously need me to say all that?”
“Do you want your book or not?” Meg rubs her temples, rearranges her expression to fierce, and turns back, her hair flying out behind her as she faces off against my alphas, waiting for Mere to continue.
“Meg, what the fuck are you doing? You’re a menace,” I hiss.
Meredith slams her hands on her hips. “If you make her cry, if you harm one hair on her head, I will come slinking into your nightmares and exact my revenge.” Meredith says in a threatening voice, and then, to my utter surprise, she holds her hands up in claws and growls.
My face flames.
But so does hers.
This book must be really hard to get.
Meredith turns to Meg. “Give me that book.”
Meg hands it over and slaps her ass as she vanishes. “That was perfect, Mere.”
“Shut up, you heathen!” Meredith hisses.
“I…” I stare at them because I have no words. Nothing. What can I say? ‘I’m sorry my deranged family are enacting this unwarranted coup. Do you want to flee back to the wilderness and live as hermits?’
My dad sidles over and puts an arm over Rory’s shoulder. “Come on, boys, I have beer and sausages.”
“I want a sausage!” Meg pipes up.
“We all know you have cock envy, dear, but these are the boring kind.”
