“Good call, Luca. I don’t even want to know what you two did in your bed tonight.”
“Shut up and go to sleep, Lilith,” he says. I can’t help but giggle as I snuggle into his body again and wrap my pinky around Lil’s.
Chapter 57
Sorry, Mom
Ariana
“Ithink we did it wrong,” I say to the chunk of slime on the ceiling. It’s been stuck there since we were sixteen. We tried to get it down a couple of years ago, but Lil trying to stand on the bed with me on her shoulders did not end well.
Lil flops onto the mattress next to me. “You think you had sex wrong?”
“Maybe.”
“How do you think you had sex wrong?”
“Well, it was good. Like... really good.”
“It’s allowed to be good, Ari. You both did your homework first. I accidentally saw Luca’s search history the other day, and let’s just say that’s something I can’t unsee.”
I let out one of those fucking snort laughs my fiancé likes so much and roll to find Lil staring at me.
“What?” I ask.
“Sorry I dragged you two in here last night.”
“Don’t be sorry for that, Lil. We’ve slept side by side for years. And we planned to for the rest of our lives. Then I had to go andfuck it up for us. It’ll take some getting used to for both of us. Hell, we might never fully get used to it. If we’re fifty and still sharing a bed sometimes, so be it.”
Her forehead crinkles as she frowns. “Do you really think Luca will be okay with that?”
“Yes,” I answer honestly. “That night in the kitchen, after the nightmare came back, you said he’s my person. And he is. Same as you are. You’d do anything for me, right?”
Her hand grips mine. “Is that a real question or are you making a point? Because you know I would.”
Giving her hand a squeeze, I smile. “Just like you know I would do anything for you. When you share a heart and soul with someone, the rules of life are different. You and me, we’ve lived by our own rules since we were kids. Luca might not always understand us but he understands that we need each other. He’s never going to try and change that.”
“He does seem pretty accepting of his role in our chaos tornado.”
Laughing, I sit up and stretch. “Why does that make me want to watch Twister?”
“No idea, but same. I’m pretty sure it’s going to have to wait until later, though. We’re supposed to be downstairs planning your wedding right now.”
“Shit.”
Five minutes later, we’re at the dining room table. Mom has her laptop open. Lil has a notebook. I have a huge cup of coffee. Luca’s MIA. Lucky bastard.
“Okay, first things first. Do you want to have the wedding somewhere other than the backyard, Ari?” Mom asks me.
“No, I think the backyard is perfect.”
“Date and location are set then. Guest list is next.” After adding the few people I like to it, she asks, “Do you think Luca will want to invite anyone other than possibly his parents?”
“Doubtful, but I’ll ask him.”
I pull up my text thread with Luca.
Are you hiding in the gym?
