Glory

April 3, 2008

Dear Glory,

I’m not mad at you, I just don’t really like writing to you anymore. You’ve changed a lot. You used to be like, “Ew! Boys are gross! I’m going to go live on Mars and be awesome!” And now all you do is talk about stupid Michael Dunford because he sprouted some biceps and likes to stick his tongue in your mouth. And your parents are clearly having relationship issues, but you don’t care as long as you get to roll around in your big ball of hormones! You sound like my sister Brittany when she was in high school. All she did was talk about how hot all these boys were and it was soirritating. Now she’s in college and she still talks about boys, but she also talks about important things, like politics and new bands that she’s discovered. I actually kind of miss her. So maybe once you grow up a little bit and stop talking about Michael Dunford all the time, I’ll want to write to you again.

Bye,

Collin

Dear Collin,

You are the worst! Just because we’ve been writing for a few years doesn’t mean that you know me! I might have changed a little bit, but I’m just a normal, teenage girl! I told you about Michael because that’s what’s going on in my life. He and I might not have much to talk about, but I very much enjoy his tongue in my mouth, thank you very much. It makes me feel dizzy and excited. And my parents are fine, they’re just both stressed out about work right now.

Are you jealous of me or something? Why do you care? Supposedly you have all these girls falling at your feet, but I bet you’re lying about them. You’re probably just some scrawny nerd who looks like Harry Potter and nobody likes you!

Have fun with your stupid trumpet!

Sincerely,

Glory

Chapter Seven: Tenth Grade

January 14, 2009

Dear Collin,

Hey, I’m sorry I said all those things about you last year. I was just mad that you said I had changed, but you were right. I was kind of obsessed about dating Michael Dunford, and I’m still dating him, but I think I’m much more chill about it now. I’m sorry I called you a scrawny nerd. I’m sure you’re very good looking and that lots of people like you. The truth is, I’ve really missed writing to you and I hope you can forgive me and we can start writing again.

You were also right about my parents. They fight all the time now, usually late at night and it’s impossible for me to go to sleep. When they start yelling at each other I try to stay out of their way, but I just wish I could help them somehow.

Are you still playing basketball? How are your brothers and sisters? I hope you're doing well and still playing guitar on the roof.

Sincerely,

Glory

Dear Glory,

I’m sorry about the things I wrote too. I was just tired of hearing about Michael Dunford, but I get that it was really exciting for you. I’ve missed writing to you too, and I was really glad to see your letter. It’s nice to know I have a friend out there, hundreds of miles away. I’m sorry your parents are fighting. Whenever my parents are having trouble theysit down and read the Bible together, but I don't know if your dad would go for that. You could suggest it anyway.

Things aren't that great at my house either. My brother Alex got caught vandalizing a train with his friends, and he got fined, and my parents had to pay the fine, and now he’s grounded until he pays them back. He’s really mad about it, and he’s being a jerk to all of us, so I spend more time on the roof than ever. I’ve actually been writing some songs on my guitar. That’s been fun and interesting. I might play one for the school talent show. I’m still playing basketball, but our team isn’t that great this year.

Have you made any space discoveries lately? Are you still into that stuff?

Bye,

Collin
