I’m trying really hard not to laugh right now but the girls have no such problems. “That’s great sweetie but maybe next time try not to pass notes in class. We wouldn’t want you to get in trouble with the teacher right? Now, why don’t you give Uncle Damon his special gift.” With that, she walks away on her mission. She’s so stinkin 'cute, marching over there like she’s ready for battle. She tugs on the back of Damon’s pants to get his attention and I can hear Rhylie snapping pictures, trying to get everything in. Damon bends down and listens to what Katya is saying. Taking the gift from her, he stands back up and looks at me with a smile on his face and a shake of his head. He peels the wrapping back with the guys standing over his shoulder. No doubt they have already figured out what it says. Inside the frame is a picture with pink and blue writing saying Another adventure is about to begin.
You + Me= Three. And the date we found out. His head shoots up looking up at me from where I’m sitting and I can see his eyes watering. The guys are all at his back telling him congratulations. He hands the frame over to Victor and starts to take off in my direction. I get up from my seat and I meet him halfway. He lifts me off the ground and spins me around. I love the look on his face. He swoops down and kisses me like I’m his last breath. The world fades and it’s just us at that moment. Pulling back and breathing heavy, I say, “I take it you like your surprise?”
“You have no fucking idea how much. I knew you were hiding something from me. I just couldn’t figure it out and now I know why you didn’t take a drink when offered. We’re really having a baby?”
“Ya, I did a test this morning after I got sick twice. I thought it was just nerves but then I realized I was late. We still have to make an appointment with the doctor this week.” We stay in our little bubble just the two of us with our heads pressed together, looking into each other’s eyes, saying how much we love each other without words. Everyone walks over to us to join us in our happiness. Hugs and kisses are given and tears shed by the girls. This right here is the true definition of what a family is and I’m so glad they are now mine. I can feel a tug on my dress and see Katya standing there. I bend down so I’m at eye level with her. “Yes, sweetheart did you need something?”
“Did I do a good job delivering Uncle Damon’s gift?”
“You sure did Kat, and the next time I need something delivered you can be my special helper as well.” Her eyes get round with happiness.
“Oh, can I? And when Auntie Bella and Uncle Victor get married I can deliver their special gift as well. He likes her and I think she likes him. They look at each other a lot. I think boys are gross though. All the boys at my school stink but that’s a secret so you can’t tell anyone. Pinkie promise.”
I’m biting my lip so damn hard right now I’m sure I’m bleeding from trying not to laugh. She just outed her own uncle and Isabella. You can hear Victor growling behind us. Turning to look, I can see Isabella's face is so red and she’s trying to hide behind Rhylie. I turn back to Katya and hold up my pinkie. She wraps hers on mine. “I pinkie promise I won’t tell anyone.” You’ve gotta love a child’s way of just letting it all out. That's one thing you’ll always get, the truth no matter if you want it out or not. I think we will be seeing one last wedding before the year is over just by the look Victor is giving Isabella at the moment and it screams I’m coming for you. Standing up, I’m swept up in Damon’s arms.
“Dance with me sweetheart?”
“I would love to dance with my husband.” He growls low in his chest. I think he really likes it when I call him husband.
“Say it again.” He growls.
“I love you, my husband.”
“And I love you, my wife. You have made me the happiest man alive today. Whatever happens in our lives, just know you're never alone. I will always be by your side. My new mission in life is to always make sure you're always happy and now that includes our child and any future children we may have. You are the greatest gift ever sent to me. I will love, honor, and cherish it until the day I die. I can’t wait to start the next adventure with you.”
He wipes the tears from my eyes God, I love this man so much. He consumes my soul, burning me from the inside out until I don’t know where I start and he begins. It’s an all-encompassing love that will stand the test of time. No matter what life throws at us, I know in the end, we will always have our love. “You, my loving husband, have been my greatest adventure. You have been my rock when I needed to fall apart. You have always been there to lift me up when I was feeling down. My soul wouldn’t be complete without you, so thank you for breathing life back into me when all I felt was broken. I’m so glad I took the chance because I know in my heart, I’m right where I've always meant to be.”
Laying my head on his chest, we sway to the music playing, his hand laying on my flat stomach. Our family gathered around the backyard talking and laughing. Sending up a silent thank you to the old man wherever he may be, who gave me the advice I needed to get me here. Because without him talking to me that night, I would have never met Damon or had any of this. Who knew that one person’s words can have such an impact on your life and that it can change the course for the better. I for one I’m excited to see where our next adventure lands us.
