“We did, it's going to be in the backyard. We already ordered tables, chairs, and decorations. Rhylie is taking care of the food and Isabella is doing the cake and sweets table. Faith is going to do my hair and makeup and I just have to find a dress and shoes which I'll be doing tomorrow with the girls. Ry’s a little scary when she sets her mind to something. We had everything planned and set up within two hours.” She's smiling up at me, her smile so big you can feel the happiness coming off her. It makes me feel ten feet tall to know I put that smile on her face that I'm the reason her eyes light up. She no longer hides herself behind the darkness Skylar has finally found her spark. Kissing her lips I pull back and ask.
“Are you happy Sky?”
“Damon, you have no idea how happy I am. All through my life, I was just floating not knowing what was going to happen next, especially living with my parents. Will I have enough food to eat, will they shut off the electricity again because it didn't get paid on time. Meeting you showed me what true happiness is like you have given me so much Damon. What I cherish the most is the love you have for me. I don't need the material things. We could live in a box and as long as I have your love, then everything would be fine. So thank you Damon, for showing me what true love really means.”
Fuck, I wasn’t expecting all that. I swallow hard a few times to clear my throat and try to dislodge the lump I’m feeling. “I love you so fucking much baby and I can’t wait till you become my wife.”
“I love you too. I can't wait till you become my husband.”
Bending down, I seal my lips to hers. Right now, it's just us in our own little bubble. Nothing else matters except right here and now with the love of my life in my arms. Nothing feels more right in my life than it does at this moment. Pulling back, I kiss her forehead and tuck her into my side, watching our friends and family laughing with each other. We might not be perfect but this is how it’s always meant to be and I wouldn’t change a damn fucking thing.
Sky
Three weeks later
Today I'm getting married and I just finished being sick for the second time today. I'm sure it's just my nerves kicking in because what else could it be. Bending down to the cabinet, I grab a new toothpaste and notice my pads sitting in the back and realize I haven't gotten my period at all. Mentally calculating when I’m due and ya, I’m overdue. I guess with everything moving so fast in my life I didn't even stop to think about it. Holy shit could I be pregnant? I mean it's a possibility since we haven't used protection ever and this is something we both wanted and talked about in-depth. I can hear the girls in the room talking while waiting for me so we can get ready. Grabbing the toothpaste, I brush my teeth. I really wish I bought a pregnancy test and kept it on hand, that way I won’t be kept waiting. Walking out of the bathroom with my hand on my stomach, all the girls stop talking and just look at me.
“I'm late,” I whisper out hoping they get my meaning and know what I should do next because I'm freaking out a little here.
“Late? Late for what? We're right on schedule here Sky,” Rhylie says looking at her watch. Bless her but she looks really confused right now. Faith smacks her in the arm, gaining her attention.
“No genius. She means she hasn't gotten her period. That kind of late. I think the twins are stealing your brain cells.” Ry just shrugs her shoulders as if agreeing with her.
“I thought it could have been my nerves for why I was sick but I just realized I haven't gotten my period when I just saw my pads. What should I do? I don't have a pregnancy test here. I never thought to get some.” Isabella walks over and grabs my hands. I didn't even realize I was freaking out so much that my breathing picked up.
“Breathe Sky. Everything is going to be okay. Close your eyes, take a breath and let it out slowly. That's it you're doing great. One of us can always run to the store real quick and get one for you.”
“No need, I have one right here. I didn't take it out of my bag from the last time. Pee on that and within three minutes you get to find out if you're gonna be a mama or not.”
Rhylie walks over with one in her hand and hands it over. It's one of those digital ones that tell you if you’re pregnant or not. So basically, no pressure. Okay, I’ve got this. Without saying a word, I walk back into the bathroom and get down to business. Once done, I flush the toilet, wash my hands and open the door. All three girls are standing on the other side waiting to be let in. They walk in and stand with me for support while we wait the three minutes together. No matter what this test says I'll be happy because today I get to marry my best friend. I can hear someone's alarm on their phone going off signaling that it's time. Closing my eyes, I bend my head, just taking the moment in. As soon as I open them, I'm going to find out if I get to surprise Damon today by telling him he’s going to be a daddy. Opening them, I see the word Pregnant and tears automatically spring to my eyes. The girls are squealing and crying in the background and give me hugs. We are all wiping tears from our eyes. I know this was meant to be and I can't wait to see Damon's face when he finds out. Now just to figure out how to tell him. An idea strikes me with how and I tell the girls what I need from them.
“Oh, that's so cute! He's going to be so happy. Now let's get you ready for your big day.” Rhylie says.
After that, it's a whirlwind of getting me ready from my hair, which is in an updo with curls. My makeup is light and airy with a neutral look. Walking over, I slip into my dress which I'm in love with. It's a beautiful A-line/princess with tulle and lace at the bodice and sleeveless. As soon as I saw it, I fell in love and knew it was the right one. Faith walks over with my shoes and I can't help but laugh. I tried the heels in the bridal shop and almost fell on my face. If it wasn't for Isabella catching me, I would have eaten carpet. I was so embarrassed until the sales lady walked over with them and told me not to worry. I'm not the first or will be the last to do that. They are a pair of white converse shoes with rhinestones glued all over them and they are perfect. I'll probably still wear them when I go out because they are that cute. The girls even bought a pair for themselves with Isabella buying a pair in Katya’s size as well. Something is brewing with her and Victor. You can feel the tension coming off of them when they are in the same room together. It's as if at any moment fireworks are going to explode and I honestly can't wait to see that happen. Slipping on my shoes, I get up and walk over to the full-length mirror. The woman looking back at me is someone I don't recognize. It's me but I no longer have the shadows hiding in my eyes. My skin and eyes are brighter, my smile bigger and it hasn’t left my face since meeting Damon. Turning to the girls, I give each one of them a hug, holding on just a little tighter to them and willing myself not to cry because I don't want to ruin my makeup.
“I just want to say thank you for being here with me. I don't know what I would do without you guys. I've never had siblings growing up but you guys have become the sisters I never had. Within this group, I finally found the family that I always wanted.”
“Group hug. Ladie Beans forever!” Rhylie screams out, making us all groan and laugh at the ridiculous name. “Now let's get this show on the road. Lucas texted me and everything is set, just waiting on you. We're gonna head down and have Damon standing with his back to the stairs so that way he doesn’t see you till he turns around.”
With that, they all walk out the door. In less than five minutes, I'll be walking down the aisle myself with Damon right beside me. Taking a couple of deep breaths, I smooth down my dress and walk out of the room towards the stairs. I can see Damon standing at the bottom, waiting for me with his back facing me. At the sound of me walking the few steps, he turns around and I suck in a sharp breath. He's in a black tux looking hot as hell. I told him he didn't have to wear one if he didn't want to. He says he will keep it on for pictures afterward. It's why I wanted this to be at home so everyone can be as comfortable as they wanted. Reaching him, he grabs my hand and spins me so he can get a full look at the dress.
“Fuck sweetheart, you look absolutely stunning.”
“You look really good in this tux.” he does, which just makes me want to rip it off and climb him like a tree. I must have a look on my face because Damon kisses my forehead laughing.
“We have all the time in the world for that later. Trust me I can’t wait till I can take this dress off you but right now it's time to get married. Are you ready Sky?”
“I'm more than ready to be your wife.” With that, he takes my hand in the crook of his arm and we both walk down the aisle and say our vows with a promise of forever and always. Gathered around the people who mean the most to us, our family.
The reception is in full swing. Everyone has changed and is more relaxed with what they’re wearing. All the girls are in the same dresses in different colors and our rhinestone shoes, even Katya is wearing hers. I haven't given Damon his gift yet. I'm waiting for the perfect moment. Right now he's enjoying his time talking with the guys laughing and joking around. He has been giving me side-eye all night. It's as if he can sense something is coming especially since I keep turning down drinks deciding to stick with water and ginger ale. Rhylie had the steakhouse cater in the food and it was absolutely amazing. She wouldn't take any money for it, saying it was her gift to us. Isabella outdid herself with the cake, a two-tier cake with flowers on it in every color. A sweets table that has everything you can imagine on it. I already told everyone they better be taking stuff home because I don't want it to go to waste. I've already put aside stuff for Katya to take. Once she saw the table, she ran towards it asking for one of each dessert, making us all laugh. Victor had to be quick on his feet with that one, promising she can take some home, especially if she ate all her dinner. Faith and Rhylie walk over to me and sit down, groaning and taking off their shoes. “Are you guys doing okay?” You can tell they both look dead on their feet and by the size of them, dancing way too long.
“Ya just tired and my feet are killing me. We really should have stopped dancing long ago.” Faith says while Rhylie nods her head and agrees. Isabella and Katya walk over as well and join us. That girl has stayed glued to her side all night. It's so cute to watch.
“So when are you going to give Damon his gift? I’m dying to see his face when he opens it. I have my camera all ready for it.” Ry says and she’s right, I think it’s time to give him his gift.
“Katya, can you do me a favor sweetheart?” She runs over to me looking like a girl on a mission. I pick up the wrapped picture frame and hand it to her. “This is for Uncle Damon. Do you think you can deliver this for me? It's something very important.” She’s already nodding her head before I can even finish the sentence.
“I can do that, Auntie Sky. I’m good at delivering things. Last week at school a boy passed me a note to pass to another girl because he has a crush on her and I didn’t get caught by the teacher.”
