The drive back to my apartment is silent, apart from the thunderous humming of my heart. I have imagined kissing Mr Suave Suit Guy a hundred times over the past few months, but never in my wildest fantasies did it live up to kissing Cillian Callaghan. His mouth was the perfect combination of soft and firm. And my god did he know what to do with it.

My lips are ruined. And so is my underwear.

He pulls up outside my apartment, leaving the engine still running. The streetlights cast a dim glow through the car.

‘Are you okay?’ he asks, thrumming his fingers on the steering wheel, looking anywhere but at me.

‘I think so.’ I swallow the saliva flooding my mouth. ‘Are you?’

He exhales a heavy breath and angles his head towards mine. His silver eyes spin with a million emotions. ‘I shouldn't have lost control like that. I’m sorry.’

‘Don’t apologise. It’s every other man that came before you who should be sorry. I’ve never been kissed like it.’ My hand instinctively reaches out to pat his thigh, the heat that burns between us melts all rationale. ‘Do you want to come up?’

Darkening eyes pin me with a smouldering stare. ‘Do I want to come up?’ His voice is incredulous.

He readjusts the crotch of his trousers, drawing my attention to the wigwam tenting his pants. ‘Ava, I’ve been “up” all afternoon. I want nothing more than to drag you up to your bedroom and ravage every inch of your skin until you’re screaming my name and begging me to let you come.’

His words steal the breath from my chest. Longing rips through my limbs. ‘What are you waiting for then?’ It’s barely more than a whisper.

His eyes darken. ‘What I want, and what I can have are two very different things.’ He drags his eyes away from mine. ‘I have to collect my daughter.’

Of course. In the heat of the moment, I forgot he has more responsibilities than I can even imagine.

Which is why, the second I get the chance, I’m going to ensure he gets to forget about them, for a while at least.

We might not be a HeartSync love match, but after that kiss I’ve decided there’s no real reason I can’t have a bit of fun with Mr Right Now, while I’m waiting for Mr Right.

Maybe what I really need to get back out there again is enough fun to remind me what I’ve been missing. Though truthfully, whatever chemistry is sparking between Cillian and me is something I’ve been missing my whole life.

I hop out of his BMW, a plan already formulating in my mind. ‘See you Wednesday.’

Those metallic eyes linger on my lips for a beat before he nods.

‘How did it go?’ Giles motions to Cillian’s taillights disappearing into the distance.

‘Good. Too good.’ I head to the lift. Giles doesn’t need to know I have another hot date right now. With my vibrator.

Monday 4thDecember

I’m at my desk early, hoping work will distract me from the memory of Cillian’s lips on mine. From obsessing over the bulge in his trousers. And my newfound plan to seduce him.

Sure, we have an agreement, and business is business.

But there’s no reason we can’t combine it with a little pleasure.

I might even throw in that sweetener he was looking for.

Bonnie approaches, clutching two caramel lattes from the neighbouring Starbucks. The scent of coffee permeates the air.

‘Has he passed yet?’ Bonnie points towards the window, handing me one of the lattes.

‘Who?’ I’m buying time. I’ve yet to confess to my best friend/PA exactly what I’ve been up to for the past six days, primarily because I know she’ll worry about me.

‘Duh, Mr Suave Suit Guy. The one and only man you’ve allowed yourself to drool over since Josh the Dairy Destroyer broke your heart.’ Bonnie perches on the desk next to me and scans the commuters outside the window.

‘Yeah, about him …’ I spin round to face her and take a large gulp of coffee. ‘We’re fake-dating.’

She splutters, whacking her chest with her fist. ‘What? Since when?’
