“Not money men,” Alexei said as he straightened up.

“Goddamn it,” Sean said as he headed for the door. “Knight, what’s the status from base?”

“No movement on camera,” Liam replied grimly.

“What I wouldn’t give for a telepath.”

Alexei went over to the man Liam had electrocuted and woke him up with a couple of hard slaps to the face. The man blinked up at him with a dazed expression, clearly not all there. Alexei snapped his fingers, creating a burst of fire that burned at the tips of his fingers.

“You answer question and I not burn you like others,” Alexei said, keeping his knee pressed firmly against the man’s sternum.

The man turned his head to the side, trying to escape the heat from the fire, and flinched with his entire body at the sight of the charred bodies nearby. He flailed a little, still uncoordinated, but Alexei easily knocked his hand aside.

“Where is Bennett?” Alexei growled.

“Don’t know,” the man muttered, his lips moving awkwardly to form the words.

He smelled like piss from loss of bodily functions. Alexei ignored the smell and pushed the fire closer to his face. “Not good answer. Island is locked down, but he has escape route. Not come here without one. Where is he?”

“Not gonna tell you nothin’.”

Alexei grabbed him by the hair and slammed his head onto the floor hard enough to knock him out again. Alexei extinguished the fire before getting to his feet and looking at Liam.

“Where you think they be?” Alexei asked.

“You said it yourself. The island is locked down. We can move in on their compatriots, but that won’t get us Bennett,” Liam said.

“There are two ways off this island, remember?” Oliver said as he came into the room, his own weapon drawn. “By sea or by air.”

Alexei shook his head. “Nyet. Only one. Boat too slow to get clear.”

Liam frowned, head tipped to the side a little, as if he were listening to someone else. “Not if they’re using it as a jump-off point. Base says the harbormaster is reporting movement at the docks, and they’ve relayed satellite footage of bogeys outside the biodome to our agents here.”

“Will blow a hole through biodome for pickup.”

“That’s going to ruin the structural integrity of the biodome, not to mention the risks of it coming down on the resort,” Oliver said.

Alexei made a frustrated sound and started for the door. “Not dying on honeymoon. Need to move.”

None of them could fly or teleport, and they didn’t have a telekinetic with them to shield the biodome. All in all, it was a fucking mess.

Next time, we’re going to the mountains.

A cabin in the woods with no one around sounded like heaven right about now.

“Can France scramble fighter jets?” Sean asked.

“Not fast enough to make a difference,” Oliver replied. “And if the enemy has multiple jets, then that means multiple possible pickup locations.”

“I’m well aware of how fucked we are, Agent Archer.” Liam’s eyes narrowed before he gave a sharp nod. “Copy that.”

Alexei looked at him. “What they say now?”

“The resort is providing transport. They have a vehicle waiting for us out front. Since we don’t know what possible locations the enemy might be at, splitting up isn’t a good use of our manpower. We’re all going after the yacht.”

Sean appeared in the doorway, holding out his hand. “Fastest way out is through.”

Alexi strode forward and took his hand in a tight grip. Then Alexei extended his other hand to Liam, who didn’t hesitate to take it.
