“Think Jamie could extend our stay with the resort for the days we spend working with the UMG?” Sean asked.
Alexei blinked at him. “Kyle could convince.”
“I think we should help Liam. If we don’t, I think we’ll regret it.”
“Think so, too.” Alexei leaned over to kiss him on the mouth, a hard, lingering kiss that stole his breath. “Marry best man.”
“Still not going to let you fuck me in Liam’s bed,” Sean muttered, pulling back.
Alexei laughed and shook his head. “I like watch. Not let anyone else watch.”
The easy, caring possessiveness made Sean feel loved. It was just one of the many reasons he’d wanted to marry Alexei and spend the rest of his life with the other man.
“I’ll get Liam and we can figure out how we’re going to clear this with the MDF when we’re not active duty right now.”
They’d fought under the Phoenix Rising team name back in September when the Sons of Adam had entered Trevor’s orbit. Alpha Team was a name carried by a different group of metahumans these days. Sean doubted the MDF would recall everyone and send them out here, especially with Jamie’s father having won the presidency. Having the future First Son and his fiancé running clandestine missions in a foreign country wasn’t exactly good diplomacy.
Sean got up to retrieve Liam from the other room, interrupting an argument he was having with Oliver. The MI6 agent seemed vastly unimpressed with Liam’s attitude. For his part, Liam seemed intent on making his point about leaving the suite of rooms.
“How did you get here with no one seeing you? Did you wear a tech stealth suit?” Sean asked, attempting to break up the quiet arguing. It was never good form for team leaders to show dissent before the people they were in charge of.
“I went the simple route. I hid in the luggage,” Liam replied. Sean stared at him in disbelief before Liam cracked a smile. “I used a false identity and nanotech strips, much like our target.”
“Someone better be hacking Customs to fix that and backdate your entry to the island.”
Liam waved off his concern. “The details will get fixed, but only if you’re staying.”
“Guess you get to escape being under house arrest. Alexei and I are interested in helping you locate Bennett. We’ll need to get approval from the MDF.”
“Brilliant. Let’s get the brass on the line and see what we can come up with.”
“You should finish your dinner first so you’re not so annoying. I’ll handle the request,” Oliver said before walking over to a terminal that showed the security feed MI6 had hacked into, pointedly turning his back on them.
“He seems nice,” Sean said with a straight face.
Liam’s narrow-eyed gaze lingered on Oliver, flicking down to his ass for a split second. “He’s something.”
Sean hoped Liam didn’t try to fix whatever discord existed between the two by taking the other man into his bed while they had a mission. It might have been an uncharitable thought, but Sean had read a dossier on Liam once before, back when he was still CIA. Whoever had written it seemed to believe Liam was a good military man when he wasn’t partying it up in the London club scene at the time and making headline articles on gossip sites.
Sean knew better now that it had merely been a distraction on Liam’s part—pay attention to his civilian life and not the buried fact he was a metahuman. Being part of the royal family, despite being thirteenth in line for the throne, meant there wouldalwaysbe interest in what he did. Oliver—and every other spy here—would probably resent that scrutiny when forced to work with Liam.
“Dinner, Liam.”
“Right.”
They returned to the bedroom, Liam carrying his plate again, and Sean discovered Alexei had already moved on to dessert. The slice of cheesecake was half-finished, and he didn’t look remotely guilty about not waiting for them to arrive before cutting into the cake.
“Is good,” Alexei mumbled around his fork.
Sean wanted to lick the faint sheen of cherry glaze off his lips. “You’re sharing.”
In response, Alexei cut a bite and extended the fork toward Sean. When he tried to take it, Alexei moved the fork back a little, and Sean got the hint. He leaned forward to take a bite, staring Alexei right in the eye as he did so.
“Your eye-fucking is worse than Jamie and Kyle’s,” Liam said with a faint snort.
“No one worse than those two,” Alexei retorted.
“All well and true.” Liam grabbed the bottle of red wine and topped up everyone’s glasses. “We’ll get you two read into the mission. When it’s all over, I’ll pay for any days lost on your honeymoon.”
