“What do you want?”I growl, resting my forehead against Dixie’s.I'm an idiot for letting us get carried away.I knew Chopper was coming tonight, but I was too wrapped up in my girl.I forgot all about it.
“I wanted to work in the kitchen, but...”he trails off.
“Just keep your mouth shut and get to work.”I carefully lift Dixie off the bar and place her on her feet. She’s staring at me with wide eyes and I know exactly what she’s thinking. She’s terrified Chopper will tell Porter, but he won’t.“I’ll talk to him, don’t worry about it.Why don’t you go work on your menu so I can talk to him alone.”
“Ok,” she whispers, but I can tell she’s still worried.
“He won't say a word, Dix.”I press a kiss to her forehead before gently nudging her in the direction of the office.
I run a hand over my beard and let out a long sigh. This is the last thing in the world I want to handle right now.I don’t need any extra stressors in my life.
As I enter the kitchen, Chopper peeks out from under the sink.He disappears again and I wonder how this will be handled. Some days he likes to be more difficult than others. No matter what, I know I’ll be able to convince him to keep his mouth shut, but I'm not sure what I’ll have to do to get him to agree.
“You’re thinking so loud I can hear you from here,” he mutters as metal clangs.
“Yeah, what am I thinking?”I fold my arms over my chest and lean back against the counter.
“You’re wondering how hard it will be to get me to keep my mouth shut.”He chuckles like this is all fun and games.
“Yeah?And what’s the answer?”
Chopper slips out from under the sink and stares at me for a moment.I'm not sure if he’s trying to decide on his answer or if he just wants me to sweat.
“Do you love her?”
“More than anything,” I growl.
“More than the club?”He arches a brow.
I pause for a moment and really think about it.I do love her more than the club.I love her more than life.
“Yeah, I love her more than the club,” I whisper.
“Then I’ll keep my mouth shut.”He disappears again and my brows draw together.
“That’s it?”
“Do you want me to give you a hard time, Storm? The two of you have always been drawn together.I’m surprised you’ve resisted her for this long.I see no reason to start trouble. You know, sooner or later Porter’s going to find out. What are you going to do then?”
“I don’t know.I guess I'm hoping he won't care?”
“I doubt that’s going to happen.”He chuckles.“That’s his little girl. The innocent one too! He’s going to care… but you have a fighting chance because he loves you like a son.”
“Does that mean he won't kill me?”I snort with laughter.
“Well, hold on.I didn’t say he wouldn’t kill you.”We both smirk.
I know I'm screwed when Porter finds out.I just need to find a way to make him more ok with the idea of Dixie and I before he finds out about us.Otherwise, we might both be leaving town…
Chapter 22
Dixie
“How’stherestaurantcomingalong?”Dad smiles from the head of the table.
He invited Oakley, Roxy, Chopper, Storm, Jasper, Morris, and myself over for dinner tonight. He used to do this all the time.It was a way for him and the higher up members to get to know the prospects a little better.
Lately, he hasn’t been doing it as often and I have to admit, I kind of miss it.
