“Doodle?” I inspect the drawing, which could compete with any of the drawings I’ve seen from the visual arts department. “This is better than a doodle. Are there pictures in all of the flowers?”
I keep every one of the flowers he’s given me on my desk. When I’m working, I love to glance over at them. They fill me with warmth every time.
“Of course.” Cam rubs my back.
My mouth opens and closes. “But to see them, I’d have to undo the flowers.”
“You could, or I can send you the pictures I took of the drawings before I made them into flowers.” Cam smiles down at me.
I grab his collar and drag him down to kiss him. He groans into my mouth and lifts me. I automatically wrap my legs around his waist, not thinking about where we are.
“Unless you want to give the janitor an eyeful, you really should lock the door.”
I jerk away from Cam at Damon’s voice. He stands near the door with his keys in his hands.
“You’re running late,” he says. “But don’t let me stop you.”
I lower my legs and back away from Cam. He releases me reluctantly with a cocky grin. “Sorry. Cam just made me realize the time.”
“We would have been there shortly.” Cam brushes his hand over my hip, and heat swells inside me. “Evan just wanted to go over her notes again.”
Damon presses his lips together. Probably wants to chastise me for not stopping, but I know the amount of time he spends working out and training. We’re probably on par for how much we put into our future careers. And he hasn’t even started hockey season yet.
They help me lock up, and Cam rides with us on the way to our house before heading to his. I can’t wait until we don’t have to say goodbye at the end of the day.
CHAPTER 39
Hawk
It’sa full read through this Sunday. Mia still isn’t back, so Evan is on stage opposite Mark. Cassio isn’t in this scene so I’m in the audience watching. There are a lot of talented actors here, but Mark and Evan? Together they make the rest of us look like students play acting. They truly are stars already.
“Hey, Hawk,” Sophie says as she sits in the chair next to mine.
I don’t say anything. She’s been a little bit more attentive since Chase went back to dating Abby. I haven’t been friendly, but I’m trying not to be mean since we perform together.
“Do you want to go into the hallway and run lines with me?” She twirls her hair around her finger and must have put on fresh lipstick.
“No, thank you.” Normally, I would, but she knows her lines, and after a few minutes, she’ll want to chat with me like we’re friends. We’re not friends. I’ve learned from Damon’s mistake that you don’t encourage a girl you don’t want.
“It’s just the one scene where I feel like I trip over my tongue,” Sophie tries again with a little hint of whine in her voice. “I just don’t want to do anything to damage the play since Mia isn’t here to carry it anymore.”
My brow furrows, and I turn to look at her. She smiles now that she has my full attention, like that’s all she’s been wanting. When I don’t say anything, she takes it as her cue I want more information.
“I mean, EvanAnn is good, but she’s a much better director than actor.” Sophie settles in the chair, content to stay here. “Obviously. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone into directing.”
“You know Annie’s my girlfriend, right?” Have I not been obvious about it? Fuck, what do I need to do? Wear aProperty of EvanAnnshirt to practice? Because if that’s what I need to do, I’ll fucking do it.
“Oh.” Sophie giggles a little. “Yeah, I know, but it’s not like you guys are exclusive.”
Fuck. This. Girl.
“What makes you say that?” My voice conveys my anger. I narrow my eyes at her, and she shrinks a little in her chair.
“She... You...” Her face flushes red, and she stands abruptly. “I need to?—”
She walks away quickly. There’s no way I’m letting someone tell me what my relationship is or isn’t. Annie is mine. She’s ours.
I don’t need to explain it to anyone, and there are no openings for extra people in this.
