“My men have…”

“No! I mean, haveyouactually killed someone? Watched them take their last breath? Slow, painful minutes that tick by as you wait for them to die?”

“No. I’ve never killed someone.”

“It’s not something that you can just do and walk away from if you actually have a soul. That shit follows you…Forever.”

“I don’t give a fuck, Cash! I’ll give up my soul if that’s what it fucking takes to get her back!” I slam my hands onto his desk and immediately regret it. The vibrations ripple through my body, and the pain makes me recoil. “Now tell me where he might have taken her!”

“Myles.” Alexandria rests her hand gently on my shoulder.

“What!?”

“You can’t go. Let me get a team together of some of the men who will be able to do this.” I spin toward her with fire in my eyes, but she doesn’t even flinch.

“I’m going, Alexandria. I’m not having my men go in while I stay back. I’m going alone.”

“Then take me with you,” she begs as her fingers grip onto the fabric of theshirt.

Cash’s laugh pulls our attention.

“Something funny?” she snaps.

“You both have a death wish. Myles, who’s never killed anyone…And you? You, Angel, will be killed instantly. Or worse.”

“Angel?” She tries to move past me to go after Cash, but I stop her. Cash stands and steps around the side of the desk as if to challenge her.

“I’m going…Alone!” I say as Alexandria huffs and turns to grab her bag.

“I don’t give a fuck what you say, Myles. I’m going with you. You need someone as backup.”

Cash laughs again, and it’s like Hell’s fury has been unleashed from Alexandria. She rushes and stands in front of him squaring up. She’s the same height as him in those heels, and honestly, if the heat in her eyes could actually do damage, Cash would be burning alive right now.

“You’re notbackup,Angel. You’re a distraction. A fucking liability. You will most certainly not be going. Give me thirty minutes and I’ll figure out a team. I have a buddy, Dex. He…Well, let’s just say he doesn’t have a soul. He can get us a few men,” he says to me before glaring back at Alexandria. “Some actual backup.”

Her upper lip twitches. I swear she almost snarls at him. I’ve never seen her so angry at someone. Usually, Alexandria is the calm, strategic one, Fabian's the smart financial one and our tech guy, and I’m the leader. Not by my choice. She’s never even raised her voice, at least around me she hasn’t, but now…Fuck, even I’m a bit nervous.

“Fuck you! I’m going,” she spits before turning around.

“In those heels? You wouldn’t even make it out of the car before you trip,” he chuckles.

She stops with her back toward him. She reaches down and takes off both her shoes. She turns and shoves them into Cash's hands before reaching into her bag and grabbing out a pair of what look like black flats. Do all women just carry spare shoes with them?

He smirks as she stands in front of him, now four inches shorter. He holds her heels out for her to take, but she shakes her head before turning away.

“To remember me by. You know…In case my distractive ass gets killed.” She grabs her bag and leaves the room slamming the door behind her.

Fury flashes across Cash's face as he clutches the heels. His eyes are locked on the door as if waiting for her to come back. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath before shaking his head. When his eyes open, the rage is gone. He glances at me and rolls his eyes.

“That woman’s going to get you killed. Where did you find her?”

“She’s my chief marketing officer at my company. She’s basically third in command.”

“Well…” He glances back toward the door. “At least let me get some actual backup to go with you.”

“Or you could come and help talk to him. Maybe reason with him. You said you were close growing up.”

“Myles, you’re asking me to go against a man who’s been a brother to me since we were kids. I don’t agree with whatever the fuck he is doing. And honestly, Declan deserved to die. He wasn’t a good guy. But Quin and I…I don’t know if I can just watch you kill him. If you can even kill him.”
