“How long do you think it’ll take, Boss?” he asksQuin.

“Don’t know. She’s stubborn as fuck. Declan always said she was a stubborn bitch, so she might be harder to break.”

Chad’s eyes glance up from the blade. I watch him lick his lips as his gaze flickers over my body before settling on my hand on the ground. In the blink of an eye, pain spreads across the top of my hand and up my arm. It’s worse than when Mac sliced into my shoulder that night. So much fucking worse.

My scream pierces the night sky as the blade sinks deeper. My vision begins to blur as the pain increases. I claw at his arm, begging him to stop. But he only laughs at my pleas.

His grin is all I can see as he twists the knife. I can feel it scraping against the bone before I hear the sickening sound of the blade popping through my palm and into the ground. My scream cuts off as Quin's hand wraps around my throat.

My hand is pinned to the ground. My world is shrinking as darkness begins to seep along the edges of my vision. All I can hear as my world fades away is the sounds of Quin and his men laughing before it all goes silent.

CHAPTER 30

Myles

“Why the fuck would Quin take Mina?” Jasmine asks as she stitches up my side.

I denied the ambulance taking me to the hospital. They were close to knocking me out and taking me against my will because of the shape I’m in, but I wasn’t going. They made me sign a liability form denying care. Hospitals mean cops, and I’m not dealing with cops on this one. This is war. I’m going to enjoy killing him for taking her.

“I honestly don’t know. Did he say anything?” Cash asks me as he continues to pace his office above the club.

“He said, ‘An eye for an eye, Mr. Langston. You may not have been the one to kill Jocko, but I know you and her killed Declan.’ Fuck!”

“Sorry,” Jaz whispers. Her hand shook when she went to do the next stitch, and she stabbed me instead.

“What did you just say?” Cash steps in front of me. Shit! Declan was his cousin.

“He said an eye foran…”

“After that! You guys killed Declan?”

“Shit!” I gasp. Jasmine accidentally pokes me with the needle again.

“Sorry…I…” She glances up at me, then at Cash. I can see her hand starting to tremble.

“Myles!?”

“Okay! Listen. Shit hit the fan, and it was self-defense.” I hold up my hand, but Cash doesn’t look mad. He looks almost relieved.

“What happened? Because Rodger said it was some gang in Mexico that Declan was dealing drugs with,” Cash asks.

I then proceed to tell him everything. Literally everything. By the end of it, Jasmine has finished stitching me up, Alexandria has picked the nail polish off of three of her nails, and Cash looks torn between wanting to hug me or hit me.

“I can’t believe she didn’t tell me…”

“Jaz, she couldn’t. If someone were to ever find out, then you would be connected, and she didn't want that.” I tell her. She angrily gets up, walks out of the room, and slams the door.

“Did he say anything else?” Cash asks as he sits down in the leather chair next to me.

“He told me I was next on his list. Do you have any idea of where he might’ve taken her?” I stand, and Cash hands me a black T-shirt.

“I…Fuck! Myles, Quin is dangerous. Like worse than Declan. He runs the trade lines for drugs, guns, and other shit in and out of Mexico. I don’t even know the half of it. He and Declan were part of that life, not me. I never wanted to be. That’s why they were closer out of the three of us.” Cash sits at his desk and rubs his temples out of irritation.

“I don’t give a fuck how dangerous he is! I’m going to get my woman back. Even if I have to kill him.”

Cash's eyes slowly lift to mine. He has a far-off, cold look in them.

“Have you ever killed someone, Myles?”
