“Yes, I’m fine!” She snaps. “I’ll be right back. I need to use the bathroom.” She pulls her hand free and walks away. Oh, look, how convenient. She left her phone behind. It’s like she wants me to find out all her secrets.

I opened it, and honestly, I was not shocked by what I saw. Theo texted her twice.

Theo-*What the fuck did I say, Cassandra? Now you have your “friend” spending the night? *

Theo-*You will regret lying to me. *

What the actual fuck. So, he is not only stalking her, but now he is threatening her. Because how else would he know that I stayed the night? Fucking psycho. I set the phone back down, and a few minutes later, Cassie slid back into the booth, looking calm as if nothing had ever happened.

“So, what kind of character are you making for tomorrow?” I ask, trying to lighten the mood.

“A Tiefling. Female. She’s badass.” She says proudly. She loves building characters as much as I love building campaigns.

“A natural good Tiefling? Never heard of one like that.” I tease. Cassie’s characters are always good.

“Nope, she’s going to be chaotic evil.” I practically spit out my coffee.

“What! Since when have you chosen that alignment?” She laughs at my shocked reaction.

"I don’t know, I just thought maybe it’s time for a change." She looks down at her cup.

"Well, I can't wait to see what she's like." I clink my cup to hers. She gives me her adorable, nose-crinkling smile.

The server drops off our food, and my mouth is practically watering. We got a bunch of stuff to share; pancakes, french toast, eggs, sausage, biscuits, and gravy. Fucking delicious.

We finish up, and I will take the bill up front to pay while Cassie packs up the leftovers.

As I hand the bill to the older woman behind the register, she glances back at Cassie in the booth. Then back at me with the biggest smile on her face.

“You two make a beautiful couple. Your eyes light up when you look at each other. It’s the kind of true love that not many people get in a lifetime. It reminds me of my late husband. God rest his soul. He was my soulmate.” She grabs my hand. “Don’t ever let her go, sugar. Cherish every moment together.”

“I won’t let her go. She’s my better half.” I can’t even hide my smile. It’s not a lie either; she truly is my better half. I think over the kind, older woman’s words as we head to the store. I need to tell her how I feel today. She needs to know.

24. Cassie

Breakfast was amazing. He ordered all my favorites and had us just split everything. He knows me better than anyone. The only thing was there was a knot of anxiety in my stomach. Theo has to be stalking me for him to know that Lucian spent the night. This shit has gone too far. I think that was the final straw to help me decide to break things off with him on Saturday. I could do it over text, but I’ve never been that kind of person.

We stopped at the dollar tree and grabbed a shit ton of cleaning supplies. Lucian wasn’t sure what he even had so we just grabbed one of everything pretty much. I pull into the parking spot designated for Lucian’s apartment and shut off the car. I go to open my door, but Lucian grabs my hand to pull me back.

“What’s up?” I ask. He is looking all panicked right now.

“Cass, there’s something I have to tell you.” He says. He is holding my right hand between both of his. Caressing his thumb in circles across my skin. Goosebumps are prickling along my arms, and my heart rate is increasing. He takes a few deep breaths.

“OK, here it goes. Cass, I...” He is cut off by the knocking on my window and my door suddenly being opened.

What the fuck. Lucian’s eyes are locked on the mystery person as I turn around to face him. Standing there, holding open my door, is what I could only describe as a God. He is tall and blonde, his eyes are a piercing blue, and his teeth areperfectly white and straight. He is also dripping in sexual energy. God damn. He is looming over me, staring down at me like I’m a delicious morsel he is about to taste. Fuck, my body instantly heats up. He winks at me, then looks over to Lucian.

“Sup fucker. Too good to answer my texts now that you are back here?” He asks Lucian. What the fuck, how does he know this man.

“When the hell did you get here? Um, Cassie, this is Jayme. My buddy from California I told you about.” He looks utterly confused that Jayme is here.

Ah, so this is the boss’s son. No wonder he looks like a millionaire. Fucker is even wearing an Armani suit. I keep glancing back and forth between the two of them. Jayme grabs my left hand and brings his lips to my skin. I was flushed and wet before, but now I’m practically dripping.

“Ah, so you are the amazing Cassie I have heard so much about. No wonder Lucian talked about you so much. You are gorgeous.” I can feel my face turn bright red. Even his voice is sending tingles all over my body.

“Uh, thank you. Um. Hi. Yeah, Lucian told me a lot about you, too.” I stammer over my words; aware he is still holding my hand. “It’s great to finally meet you.”

“Oh, has he now? Luci, what shit lies have you been telling this gorgeous woman about me?” He releases my hand, and I can finally breathe a bit better.
