I blushed and cleared my throat.
“Um…”
Her cackle made Theo grin.
“I tried to tell you!”
After hearing her walk away, I pushed Theo from me and rushed through getting dressed. I ran to the bathroom and brushed my teeth and tied my hair up in a knot without brushing it.
“I’ll see you down there, I guess?”
Theo pulled me in for one more kiss and nodded.
“I’m right behind you.”
He meant it literally. He gripped my hips from behind and walked with me. I looked at him over my shoulder and laughed.
“Subtle.”
“Maybe at one point in my life. Thanks to you, though, I don’t know the word anymore.”
I stopped at the top of the stairs and smiled at the way he gently tugged me away from the steps.
“Do you know why Dominic doesn’t want me taking the kids to the park? I’ve been meaning to ask but I wasn’t speaking to any of you…”
I expected him to laugh but his face grew serious.
“Safety reasons. We can’t guarantee safety outside of this property.”
I tilted my head and studied his expression.
“It’s a park. I mean, there might be an angry soccer mom or a little two-year-old tyrant somewhere, but it’s a park.”
“It’s just not an option.” His tone said the conversation was over. “Come on. I’m sure there are three little kids down there itching to see you.”
I frowned but I let him guide me down the stairs.
“I suppose that’s all the answer I’m going to get. For now.”
He slipped his hand down my back and lightly spanked me.
“You’re going to give us a run for our money, aren’t you?”
“I guess it depends.” I watched his eyebrows raise and reached up to gently push them back down. “I need to figure out how this all works so I can learn the parameters of what I’m allowed to know or question. Are we sharing our lives or just our bodies? But for now, I need to go do my job.”
He caught my wrist when I tried to walk past him.
“Our lives, Sutton.”
I shuddered at the intensity in his gaze and bit back a smile.
“Good.”
CHAPTER 42
Leon
I stretched out on a lawn chair while I watched Sutton and the kids play in the shallow end of the pool. All three kids had on life jackets and Sutton was never more than two feet from any of them. Thank fuck she had the ability to focus on the kids because I would’ve had to take them out of the water if we were depending on my focus. Sutton in a bathing suit was ruining any ideas I’d ever had about pretty women before. She was it.
